Will a 3D Smart blue ray player (also by LG) work with this TV? Or do both the blue ray AND the TV have to be 3D? How des that work?

In order to play a 3D blu-ray, the blu-ray player and the TV both have to have 3D capability.

Unless it is indicated in the specs, or it is sold as a "smart" TV, the more than likely it won't. Keep in mind that most smart TV features can be found in many bluray players as well, so maybe what you need is a combination of a TV + bluray player. Sometimes it comes out cheaper than buying the standalone smart TV.

I would recommend a matte screen if the lights or sunshine directly hit the screen, as it reduces the glare.

I plug in my HDMI to my laptop and it works fine. I plug that same cable into my iPAD and no display comes up.

However, "Smart" tvs are usually capable of an internet connection. There are many options available out there to add the ability of using video streaming apps like Roku, Apple TV and many of the blu-ray players on the market today.
