Rated 5 out of 5 by RETIREDGUY THE BEST 42IN LCD
I have had my 42SL80 for a year and a half now. Before I bought it, I looked at all the brands and the LG was just superb in picture quality and vivid picture. I had it set up and adjusted in 15 minutes right out of the box. The picture is just perfect like It was new. Since then I bought a 26in LG lcd for the kitchen. As far as I'm concerned, LG has the best tv and picture. It is the only tv I will consider to own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by medicineman3 Amazing Value
I was in the process of buying a lower end competitor's product when my wife pointed this model out to me. This was 7" larger, had a higher bit rate, and resolution and was only slightly more than the competitor who was on sale.
My wife convinced me to purchase this and man was I glad she did. The sound, picture and performance was even better than the display at the store!!!!
The images produced are on a par with 3D.... There are ample inputs and its so light it could pass as an LED.
The only thing lacking is built-in WiFi.... If it had that I would have given it 5 stars.

Best TV I ever purchased. The picture and colours are so life like. Even replaying DVD movies is like watching them the first time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DaleDe Great even it you don't have HD
I own a 47LS85-UA but this is the closest model to the one I bought. This unit was discontinued a month after I bought it but it is still being sold at bargain prices so I thought it would still be worthwhile to do a review. I do not have HD capability, currently using a Directv Tivo box and DVD recorder/player but I may put up an antenna at some point for true HD. Most of the reviews talk about good HD but I can say it can also do an excellent job of upconverting standard signals. This can be important since many cable channels are not HD and DVD's are still predominant.
I was disappointed in the lack of S-Video input but I bought an S-Video to 720p HDMI upconverter on the Internet to overcome this. However the unit does accept composite video (and VGA input) and can upconvert these signals internally. I was very surprised and pleased with how well it works with standard video. There are plenty of settings to tweak the signal for improved performance.
I use the Tivo remote most of the time but the unit remote Q Menu, AV Mode, Menu, (Input is on my Tivo) are used a lot. The manual talks about a button between the Q Menu and the Menu button that can change mode easily but my remote is missing this button. (I wish I had it). I use the Mode (Q Menu) the most. The zoom feature is particularly useful with standard video. It is the best I have seen with custom height adjustment and the ability to move the screen up and down within the picture. This can help when you don't want to cut off peoples heads. On sports you often need to see both near the top and near the bottom (for tennis the score and the baseline for example). Sometimes I tweak the height to show what I need or I just switch to 4x3 mode to see it all. I have making everyone look fat so I don't use the 16x9 mode when watching people although it can be used for race cars. One thing I like is that the settings are independent for different inputs so I use composite input and upconverted HDMI to switch between two different preset modes sometimes. Particularly when I want to maximize view of the image. Zoom mode does have overscan issues and some of the width edges are cut-off. I wish it were better in that regard. The input choice button is smart and only offers choices that have a current signal.
The only other problem I have is that there are more reflections than I would like from windows and room lights. It is not an ambient light problem but a mirror problem (I can see the window or light in the picture). I can usually minimize the problem by rotating the screen on its stand.
All in all I am very pleased with this top of the line unit available at closeout prices these days.

My wife and I are VERY, VERY HAPPY with our purchase. We love the picture, watching sports is GREAT. We use the swivel base, and the TV has a good sound! I did the hook up myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dick My First Flat Screen TV
What a difference! It took me a long time to graduate to TV viewing at its very best, but I finally made it --- and seemed to have chosen one of the best products available. So far, I haven't found a single thing to criticize on this product. My only criticism, which has nothing to do with the Tv, is that this is one of the most user-unfriendly websites I've ever seen. There's very little that could be done to improve the TV, but a LOT that could be done to improve the website.
