LG NB3730A + 50LN5700; one remote

I'm trying to use my LG 50LN5700 LED TV with an LG NB3730A sound bar. All of the instructions seem to indicate that I should be able to use the volume on the TV remote to control the volume on the sound bar using Simplink. When I go into the Simplink menu the TV option is grayed out even though it is set to LG Sound Sync (Optical). I get audio through the sound bar. but have to use two remotes, which I don't want to do.
What settings do i need to configure on the sound bar and TV to make the Simplink work?

Answer:
After researching this a little further I discovered that Simplink uses the Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) technology that is part of the latest hi-speed HDMI standard. I was using an older HDMI cable that didn't support this standard. After replacing the cable, the Simplink, and the volume adjustment worked fine.
Another answer says not to use optical. This is incorrect. The optical connection is the sound bar's input and the HDMI is the controlling output.

Answer:
We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this Television and Sound Bar. The SimpLink feature is only available when the two devices are connected using the HDMI cable. The OPTICAL port will not support this feature. If you have additional questions, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Why is the T.V. functioning on 60hz refresh rate?

I have an HD cable box plugged into the HDMI 1 slot. The HDMI cable runs up to 240Hz but its still working on 60Hz refresh rate.

Answer:
Per a call to LG support with my own question on this, I was told that everything runs at 60Hz input to the TV for now. The Info screen is showing you the input settings - you get the 120Hz on this model by having the motion software interpolate the movements on the screen and add frames. This is why you see extremely smooth motion but almost a 3D effect when you turn the motion up high. By adding frames it is effectively speeding up the refresh rate that you experience, but input devices are still at the 60Hz rate.

Answer:
This television has been designed with a 1080p / 120Hz screen. If the display is stating 60Hz, this is simply stating the format and resolution being received from the signal source. The screen will still be processing the image at 120Hz and 1080p.

can I play 3d movies on this?

Do I have to buy anything special to play 3d movies or can I play directly from my list of downloaded movies? And yes, I realize I would need 3d glasses.
