Answer:
Standing facing the front of my washer when I open the door it swings to the left. The hinges that hold the washer door on the machine are on the left. However if you get the matching dryer that door opens to the right

Hello Jason, sorry all units only come as specified and washer doors (unlike dryer doors) are not reversible.

Answer:
Yes, absolutely necessary to use HE detergents to prevent damage to the machine. I find I use less detergent, too because the machine is so efficient in cleaning.

Answer:
Your interest in the LG - 5.2 Cu. Ft. 14-Cycle Mega Capacity High-Efficiency Steam Front-Loading Washer, model number WM8000HVA is greatly appreciated. Stacking the dryer on top of the washer is not an option. That might be advisable to place that much weight on top of the controls of the washer as the top is not designed to support that kind of weight...IFV

Answer:
You need to run a "clean" cycle. This setting is on the machine and I'm pretty sure you can use the recommended bleach amount with this special cycle.
Also, always leave the washer door cracked so that it can air out when you're not using it.

Answer:
My previous front loader also had this problem. The rubber gasket did not have a proper drainage and the sitting water and hence the mildew odor. I left the door open, used something to turn off the interior light. I also used some commercial cleaners and occasionally used clorox in a rinse cycle.

Answer:
First investigate where the odor actually is strongest, may not be the machine itself but rather from moisture trapped in adjacent wallboard. Look for potential water leaks around on walls near water supply and device connection. If in/on wall you will need to use a proper mildecide available at most Home Depot or Ace Hardware stores to kill the growth. In some situations you may need to remove and replace the old wallboard plus 12" in all directions (wallboard tends to wick water). Make sure you allow two to four days for the area under the wallboard to dry out before replacing with new as it will just grow back if left untreated and dried properly.

IF odor emanates from machine try running a couple of cycles with use of chlorine bleach. Bleach kills mildew and may just be all you need.

Answer:
We, too, combated this problem for years! Thought it was the water in our house, cleaned the pump filter every 2 washes, ran the clean basket cycle...nothing ever worked! When our new LG arrived, I asked the tech about that smell and he immediately told me that it is the liquid wash detergent. I purchased the powder for HE machines and have not had the smell AT ALL. Whether it's the new machine or the powder, I'm not sure, but I'm not gonna risk using liquid in my new LG (reportedly, it's the oil used in the liquid that never breaks down and just rots, hence the smell).

Answer:
This model has a 'machine clean' cycle, so you can rinse it after washing something really dirty, very linty, or very smelly. There is a separate drain located at the bottom of the machine, in the front, so you can drain the left over water from the machine (almost all machines leave some water behind in the machine following each use, which is where I think the smell comes from). You drain it into a pie tin, its very easy. There is also a removable filter in the front that you can remove and rinse out any lint or other gunk. You can't do that with other machines, and I think that helps keep the machine smelling clean. I have not had any mildew smell from my machine. I have drained it when we were going to be gone for a few days, and it was very easy.
