Answer:
Yes, absolutely necessary to use HE detergents to prevent damage to the machine. I find I use less detergent, too because the machine is so efficient in cleaning.

Answer:
You need to run a "clean" cycle. This setting is on the machine and I'm pretty sure you can use the recommended bleach amount with this special cycle.
Also, always leave the washer door cracked so that it can air out when you're not using it.

Answer:
My previous front loader also had this problem. The rubber gasket did not have a proper drainage and the sitting water and hence the mildew odor. I left the door open, used something to turn off the interior light. I also used some commercial cleaners and occasionally used clorox in a rinse cycle.

Answer:
First investigate where the odor actually is strongest, may not be the machine itself but rather from moisture trapped in adjacent wallboard. Look for potential water leaks around on walls near water supply and device connection. If in/on wall you will need to use a proper mildecide available at most Home Depot or Ace Hardware stores to kill the growth. In some situations you may need to remove and replace the old wallboard plus 12" in all directions (wallboard tends to wick water). Make sure you allow two to four days for the area under the wallboard to dry out before replacing with new as it will just grow back if left untreated and dried properly.

IF odor emanates from machine try running a couple of cycles with use of chlorine bleach. Bleach kills mildew and may just be all you need.

Answer:
according to the manufacture you would void the warranty if you don't use their new hoses with their machine so i find it funny if they wouldn't supply you with the hoses. That said every washer I've bought had came with fill and drain hoses. The drain hose is part of the machine itself and the water fill hoses are always inside the tub if not in a bag attached to the machine. Bought the wm8500hva and was told it didn't have any hoses by the delivery boys but it was inside the tub as it always is. If you open the washer and there is no hoses and warranty package inside the tub or on the machine call the retailer or manufacturer immediately.

Answer:
Drain hose yes, fill hoses no. You need to supply those. The drain hose is permanently connected to the washer.

We, too, combated this problem for years! Thought it was the water in our house, cleaned the pump filter every 2 washes, ran the clean basket cycle...nothing ever worked! When our new LG arrived, I asked the tech about that smell and he immediately told me that it is the liquid wash detergent. I purchased the powder for HE machines and have not had the smell AT ALL. Whether it's the new machine or the powder, I'm not sure, but I'm not gonna risk using liquid in my new LG (reportedly, it's the oil used in the liquid that never breaks down and just rots, hence the smell).

Answer:
This model has a 'machine clean' cycle, so you can rinse it after washing something really dirty, very linty, or very smelly. There is a separate drain located at the bottom of the machine, in the front, so you can drain the left over water from the machine (almost all machines leave some water behind in the machine following each use, which is where I think the smell comes from). You drain it into a pie tin, its very easy. There is also a removable filter in the front that you can remove and rinse out any lint or other gunk. You can't do that with other machines, and I think that helps keep the machine smelling clean. I have not had any mildew smell from my machine. I have drained it when we were going to be gone for a few days, and it was very easy.

Answer:
I have had two of these washers - the first steam washer bought 4 years ago, and the newer 5.1 capacity bought a few weeks ago. I have four large breed double coated dogs - and lots of dog beds and dog rugs to wash. I have had no problems whatsoever washing these types of items in the front loading steam washer provided_that I do the following:

1. Always always always shake the bedding or throw rugs really well to remove fur, dirt, leaves, grass, grit, etc. BEFORE tossing them into the washer.

If you don't do this, you run the very real risk of gumming up the pumps or blocking the water flow.

2. Don't cram the washer full of these items. Be sure that there is plenty of room for them to tumble freely as they wash and rinse.

3. Add additional water to the cycle, and an extra rinse.

4. When the cycle is done, after you remove the wet material to the dryer, make a careful inspection underneath and around the big rubber gasket circling the door entry, to be sure that no hair or debris remains there. Run a damp wash cloth or paper towel around the rim, underneath and on top of the gasket, to be sure that it's nice and clean.

5. Every third or so cycles, open the hatch at the lower left of the washer, drain any remaining water into a bucket (there shouldn't be much#, and then unscrew the little plastic pump strainer. Clean out any trapped hair or debris, and rinse and return it to its place. Tighten but not over-tighten the strainer.

6. Last but not least, every fourth or so cycles with this type of material, do a Tub Clean cycle.

If you will do these things #which is all just common sense) in my experience you will have no problems.
Step 1 above is the most critical - but do them all.

Cheers!

Answer:
Unfortunately, yes, it is possible that the washing of pet materials can cause clogging of the pumps with the amount of hair generated. It is not recommended to wash such items in this unit.
