Drum broke off!!
I never thought I'd see this! My son had an accident at night and I put his bed linens in the washing machine. Let me preface that he has a twin bed so the load was small for this large capacity washing machine. Our machine is upstairs. We heard what we thought was the roof caving in. My husband ran upstairs and realized it was the washing machine. The lid ripped through the lock and opened from the force of the drum. It was tilted in the base and had totally broken off! This machine was just over 3 years old and installed by the builder of the home. Because we are the second owners we cannot enforce the warranty. Stay away from this machine!!

This product has issues
Like many other reviews on this site, I really liked the washer at first. Over time it started going unbalanced more & more often. We heard about the recall and had the firmware upgrade done. This is when the real problems started.
Like others we constantly get the 'uE' display and then the time goes back up and it repeats the last action. The worst part is the spin cycle, since once it gets in the 10 minutes left range, it faults, jumps back to the start of the rinse-spin cycle and adds water again. It does this even when you put into the 'Spin Only' mode and adds water to the tank. we can not get the clothes down to the point where we can put them in the dryer.
Right now, even as I type, we have a small load of 6 shirts & 1 pair of jeans that has been going for over 5 hours! This is a big waste of money on a relatively expensive household item. It's curious how it works fine until the washer gets past the warranty period then goes beyond Fail right to Epic Fail. I have other LG appliences that I'm quite happy with, but I will never risk my money on a LG washer again. I think I'll have to replace this machine as it can't get the laundry done as fast as it is stacking up.

Unbalanced Error Code - won't finish spin cycle
We bought the LG WT5101HW in Nov. of 2010. I did a lot of research before purchasing a washer. My main criteria: large capacity, quiet operation (low vibration) since the laundry room is on the second floor along with the bedrooms, and a thorough spin cycle so the clothes aren't overly wet before putting them into the dryer. I can verify that our machine is extremely quiet and produces very little vibration. All the bells & whistles are fun and impressive. However, shortly after purchasing it, I felt that the final spin did not live up to expectations and the clothes were not really as clean as my previous machine. The rest of my family (teenagers & college students) thought it worked very well so I thought it was just my imagination. Shortly after the 2 year anniversary the LG washer began to alert "unbalanced" loads with increasing frequency so that by June 2013 every load had to be reset. We called for certified service (thankfully we did purchase an extended warranty). The local serviceman was very courteous and polite. He checked it and said the display module needed to be ordered and replaced. (We discovered that this model has a recall for that particular problem as well as a problem with excessive movement when spinning). So we waited a week for the new display module to be installed. Again, the local serviceman was helpful and polite. However, the machine now won't complete the rinse cycle at all! Once the spin cycle counts down to 10, it stops, resets itself and begins the rinse cycle again, continuing in an endless loop or until the sensors throw an "unbalanced" error code and stops the machine. We can't even override this problem by using the setting for "spin only". It will still spin, count down to 10, then begin the rinse cycle again. We have had to throw dripping wet clothes (jeans!) into the dryer after spending all day babysitting the washer trying to trick it into finishing the spin cycle. On one load, I was able to wring out 1-2/3 cups of gray water from socks before putting them into the dryer. Thank goodness our dryer works well! I have seen many other posts from disappointed owners who are now beginning to see these problems develop after a year or two. It's no wonder that this model has been discontinued.

GREAT UNTIL RECALL FIRMWARE UPDATE
We have had this washer (and matching dryer) for over 2 years. Never, ever had any issues however we received a letter saying there was a recall on the washer. We called LG and our serial number was included in the recall so we arranged a service. The recall updated the firmware to the newest version however once this was done, problems started. Now if we try to wash a blanket or a medium to large load the machine stops, flashes EU to time, takes 3-4 times longer, uses more water AND then STOPS with clothes SOAKING WET. I WANT MY OLD PROGRAM BACK. So now, they have to replace the WHOLE electronic board to get the old firmware back. Whatever you do, DO NOT update your firmware because it is a nightmare and will make your washing machine unusable. Keep the original program.
