LG Electronics shows support for World Environment Day

Johannesburg, June 2, 2010 LG Electronics (LG), the global consumer electronics company and technology innovator has highlighted its commitment to supporting World Environment Day on 5 June 2010 with a new advert conceptualised by advertising agency, Young & Rubicon and produced by production house, “Masters & Savant.”

The advert highlights aims to show consumers that when using LG products, they not only save on energy, but the reduction in green house gases is similar to the effects from directly planting trees; a LG SolarDOM lightwave oven compared to an electronic oven is equivalent to planting 140 trees; using an LG LCD TV is equivalent to planting 7 trees; using an LG Refrigerator is equivalent to planting 39 trees; using an LG Air conditioner is equivalent to planting 2 042 trees; using an LG Notebook is the equivalent of planting 8 trees; using a LG LCD monitor compared is equivalent to planting 5 trees and using an LG Home Theatre system is equivalent to planting 2 trees.*

Dr. Michelle Potgieter, Marketing Director, LG Electronics South Africa explains that in South Africa, LG Electronics started educating consumers about the environment and the benefit of living in a more eco-friendly manner four years ago, with its “Healthy for you. Healthy for the planet” campaign. 

“This highly successful campaign was initiated to be in-line with what LG was doing on a global level and has now evolved into our “Life’s Good when it’s Green” initiative, recognisable by our eco-friendly butterfly logo. This iconic logo denotes that the product upon which it is placed has been manufactured to ensure minimal impact has been made on the environment during the production process while remaining reliable, stylish and innovative.”

At LG South Africa, all management and employees are united in carrying-out various activities to reduce waste including recycling billboards, recycling paper and using water and energy more sparingly wherever possible.  To this end the company is in the final stages of installing solar panels as well as having installed rain water collection tanks at the new LG offices in Gosforth Park, Germiston.

“Our recent office relocation allows us to be easily accessible from major freeways as well as adjacent to our biggest distributor MassMart,” continues Potgieter.  “It affords us the opportunity, after we have reduced the environmental impact on designing and developing our products, to further reduce our carbon footprint with the transportation of our products to our consumers.”
