SYDNEY, June 3, 2013 –LG Electronics Australia (LG) today announced that the highly successful Optimus L Series is getting both a specification update and a facelift to further enhance the smartphone’s range appeal to consumers.

The refreshed Optimus L SeriesII (comprising L2II,  L3II, L5II,  L7II andL9II) will be made available through a range of local operators, open distribution channels, and retailer partners over coming months, with the  L3IIavailable now at Telstra, and the L7IIbeing launched through Optus in June. Remaining models are scheduled to enter the market during Q3 and Q4, 2013.

The original Optimus L Series proved extraordinarily popular, selling more than 10 million phones in the first 10 monthsof release globally. In Australia, the series of well-featured and distinctively designed handsets propelled LG to the number 3 position in the growing Android segment of the market, and the number 2 position in the prepaid smartphone segment.

“Australia is the only market globally where LG released all 5 original models in the range and the results have been outstanding for the local business as it sets a firm base of consumer support ahead of more expansive moves into other market segments in 2013,” commented Jonathan Banks, Head of Mobiles, Australia.

“LG is confident the momentum will continue with the refreshed line-up of devices, the L SeriesII – and the response from our local operator and retail partners has been very encouraging ahead of the new, upgraded device launches,” he added.

Optimus L SeriesII embodies the beauty of the first L Series range but with a more refined touch and feel. The design philosophy of L SeriesII has been enhanced to include four new design elements: Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and Rainbow LED Lighting on the home button.

The L SeriesII also offers an expanded set of convenient features, including QuickMemo, and Quick Button, which are also features of LG’s flagship smartphone, Optimus G.

> QuickMemo:Lets users capture and share handwritten notes on the screen of the phone usingjust their finger.

> Quick Button:Enables personalisation of the ‘hotkey’ to launch an applicationof choice such as the camera, browser, music player or even QuickMemo.

> Rainbow LED Home Notification Light: Enables the light around the central home key  to be illuminated and then indicate notifications such as missed calls or received messages.

> QuickTranslator function: Translates not only words but entire sentences and phrases by simply using the camera to scan the text. QuickTranslator accepts 44 different languages and can translate them into any one of 64 languages.

The user experience is enhanced with the inclusion of IPS displays with true to life colour and larger battery capacity fromprevious comparable LG models. For select models, LG will also bring to market aDual SIM variant of the Optimus L SeriesII smartphones, thus allowing consumerstake advantage of call rates offered by Operators and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs).

“LG has a history of design innovationwith our mobile productswhen it comes to style, and the Optimus L SeriesII builds on that heritage,” Banks continued.

“Last year we received a positive reaction from our customers for theL Series products based on the very innovative visual appeal of the handsets along with our targeted approach to marketing the devices to a style conscious and youthful audience that have traditionally been very responsive to the LG brand. We intend to continue our strong position in the pre-paid market with the refreshed L Series range,” he added.

Ben Murray, Head of Mass Retail Distribution at Optus said, “The upgraded LG L Series IIhandsets are a welcome addition to our extensive range of Optus smartphones.  With so many great features and a seamless design, we’re confident the LG L Series II will provide our pre-paid customers the ultimate experience on the Optus network.”

“The LG L5IIis the perfect device for our young customers who demand great looking, feature rich smartphones at a price which is affordable.  I’m excited that Boost Mobile will exclusively range the LG L5II here in Australia, and it will be on Australia's network without equal. With this new device I am also confident that we will build on the previous success we and our retailers have had with the LG L range,” contributed Paul O’Neile, CEO for Boost Mobile.

“The LG L3II is available now, exclusively on Telstra Pre-Paid for $99*, which also includes $10* credit for talk and text to standard Australian numbers. The L3II is the perfect choice for people wanting to own an Android device on Telstra’s superior network at a great price. Telstra also has a huge range of Pre-Paid offers giving customers great flexibility to use their new device how they like,” commented Stuart Bird, Director of Pre-Paid Mobiles, at Telstra.
