Sydney, Mar. 13, 2013 – Coinciding with today’s launch of the highly anticipated Optimus G, dubbed by many as ‘THE SUPERPHONE’, LG Electronics Australia (LG) announced its aggressive go-to-market approach by leveraging its mobile phone heritage and proactively pursuing further technological developments in 4G / LTE (Long Term Evolution).

With an initial global target to sell 10 million smartphones each quarter and double sales of LTE devices in 2013, this is LG’s most ambitious smartphone strategy to date.

LG’s new 3 - tiered product category plans will be led by LG’s flagship model, Optimus G, to target the premium segment while the F and the refreshed L series range will be positioned as mass audience smartphones for 4G/LTE and 3G consumers, respectively.

These new models combine outstanding hardware, world-class high definition displays, and a user-centric user experience (UX) with each series emphasising the company’s innovative smartphone expertise.

“LG continues to lead the industry with 4G/LTE innovation and the Optimus F Series handsets are well-balanced and well-equipped 4G/LTE smartphones for the mass market. They embody the best of our broad LTE patent portfolio and innovative UX features,” said Lambro Skropidis, LG Australia Marketing General Manager.

“With adoption of 4G/LTE expected to explode in 2013, we are sending a clear message to consumers with the Optimus G and Optimus F Series that LTE isn’t just for heavy content users and technophiles anymore.  It’s for everyone.”

With 62% of all Australians over the age of 16 now owning a smartphone and new purchasers favouring Android (averaging 58% in 2012)[1], LG is poised to continue to build on its success following the launch of the L Series last year.

In 2013, LG will introduce a range of exciting smartphones that boast superb hardware functionality, innovative design and outstanding display qualities.

Flagship Superphone Featuring World-class Hardware and Software

Optimus G is LG’s premium flagship device offering a unique UX supported by innovative hardware performance.  The powerful hardware included in the Optimus G enables the extension of the creative and engaging UX.

The best phone LG has ever produced, Optimus G represents the very best that LG offers in innovation and technology. Optimus G is a collaboration of some of the finest component makers on the planet coming together for a singular cause; to develop a standout smartphone that offers consumers practical features in line with LG’s commitment to making lives better.

With the powerful quad-core CPU, Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor and industry best technologies for enhanced viewing and enhanced battery life; LG adds the finishing touches on the Optimus G with a beautiful sleek design and innovative UX features.  The offerings in the Optimus G will provide users an experience unlike any other smartphone.

“The Optimus G is a ground-breaking premium device not only for LG but also for the smartphone industry,” said Skropidis.  “With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives.”

New Form of Multi-Tasking and Engaging UX

LG’s Optimus G enables multi-tasking on a scale not seen before in a smartphone.

  • QSlide Function shows up to 3 apps simultaneously on one display.  Users can open and run apps concurrently - such as sending a text message or searching the web while watching a video – and fade the apps transparency in and out for optimal viewing and usage.
  • Dual Screen/Dual Play not only allows mirroring between the smartphone and a compatible TV, it also has the ability to display different content on the TV and the phone screen.  For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes.
  • QuickMemo allows users to capture screen images and write or draw a memo with their finger directly on the captured screen. Information can then be shared easily with friends as an attachment or URL.  QuickMemo can also be used as an ‘overlay’ feature by jotting down a number and then transferring it to the phone dial pad, on the top layer of the screen, in order to easily reuse the information.
  • Live Zooming enhances the video-watching experience as users can zoom in up to five times the original video picture size as it is played. For example you can zoom into a close-up of a child’s face amid a crowd while watching video from a school recital.
  • Time Catch Shot enables the user to take a series of shots, with the phone buffering and holding images prior to the shutter button being pushed.

In addition to Time Catch Shot, Optimus G’s camera will allow for capturing and seizing those special moments in users’ lives.  Utilising the high resolution 13 MP camera, users will have the opportunity to capture their favourite scenes with:

  • Smart Shutter senses camera vibration or the movement of the subject and adjusts the shutter speed for the best shot;
  • Cheese Shutter takes photos easily through a voice activation command with words such as cheese, smile, or even LG.

Design Masterpiece with Timeless Value

Inheriting LG’s design DNA and heritage, the blend of delicate design and technology delivers a sophisticated black unibody form.  For this sophisticated look, LG developed and patented the Crystal Reflection finish, which is applied to the back of the Optimus G for a luxurious look and feel.

Ultimate UX

Optimus G complements the enhanced UX features with superior speed and power from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core CPU processor.  The display technologies such as the Zerogap Touch and True HD IPS Plus Display from LG Innotek and LG Display harmonise to offer the slimmest, sharpest, and clearest viewing experience to date from LG Australia.

The new battery from LG Chem has a longer life and maintains like new power-performance even after hundreds of repeat charges and delivers up to 15 hours of talk time.

Optimus G is available exclusively on the Telstra network. ‘THE SUPERPHONE’ will also be available to purchase at Telstra stores, Phone Zone, Leading Edge, and JB Hi-Fi retailers.

In addition for the first 5000 people who buy the handset it will come with an added bonus of a free gift with purchase of a Miracast Wireless Adaptor valued at R.R.P $99.00

4G LTE Smartphone for Everyone

Announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona earlier this month, LG is expanding its solid 4G/LTE presence with the introduction of the Optimus F Series.

With LG’s industry-leading LTE technologies, the Optimus F Series is designed to bring a premium user experience and the speed of 4G LTE to a mass audience.

Two devices – Optimus F3 and Optimus F5 – are planned for launch in Australia later this year.  Exact timing and pricing will be announced at a later date.

The Optimus F3 is a 4G LTE smartphone with a 4.0-inch IPS display running on a Dual-Core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and class-leading 2,460mAh battery while the Optimus F5 offers a 4.3-inch qHD IPS display and a Dual-Core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor powered by a large capacity 2,150mAh battery for long lasting performance.

Both devices will run on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OS at launch and will include advanced UX features such as the upgraded QSlide 2.0, Quick Memo with Overlay, Time Catch Shot and Live Zooming, previously only available in LG’s premium devices.

The QSlide feature, as seen on Optimus G, and featured in the new devices allows users to open up to two additional apps as floating windows on top the screen at any time.  Users can change the size, position, and transparency of QSlide apps according to their needs.  Functions compatible with QSlide include video, browser, memo, calendar, and calculator and are easily accessible from the drop down notification menu.

Live Zooming, previously only seen in the Optimus G, will be standard in the Optimus F3 and Optimus F5.  Live Zooming allows the user to zoom into a specific area while watching a video.

Additional features included in both Optimus F Series devices are QuickMemo, QTranslator, Video Wiz, and much more.

Continuation of Unique Design Heritage

With an Optimus L Series smartphone sold every second over the past two months globally, there is strong demand for these well-balanced smartphones with a unique design.

The Optimus L Series II will carry on the legacy of its predecessors, offering a user experience and design unique to LG smartphones.

The Optimus L1, L2 II, L3 II, L5 II, L7 II and L9 ll feature comfortable contour details in a slim design.  The sleek and customisable devices are also differentiated by smart LED lighting around the home button.

“The success of the Optimus L Series is testament to our belief all along that there is indeed a market for well-balanced smartphones that represent individuals’ unique tastes,” says Skropidis.  “The new Optimus L Series II expands upon the design philosophy of the original series so we’re quite confident that we’ll have another hit on our hands.”
