SYDNEY, 6 November, 2014 – There’s something about knowing where your food comes from. Matt Moran, celebrity chef, LG brand ambassador and longtime, vocal proponent of locally-sourced ingredients, explained this at Sydney Fish Market today, encouraging everyday Australians to shop fresh and direct. The event celebrated the launch of LG’s newest Five Door Door-in-Door models (GF-5D712SL and GF-5D906SL) and anticipates two CustomChill™ drawer models* available in Q2 2015.

Matt Moran“There’s an old saying that goes something like, ‘Maybe once in your life, you’ll need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman or a preacher. But three times a day, you’ll need a farmer,’” said Matt Moran. “I believe Australians want to get more out of their meals. They don’t want to just sit down and eat – they want to make connections, understand where their food comes from, and support the local farmers who produce it with fair prices.”

Matt’s impassioned support for Australia’s farmers and primary producers goes hand-in-hand with his relationship with LG, he said. “It makes perfect sense that those who invest in the source of their ingredients should also invest in keeping those ingredients as fresh as possible with their choice of refrigerator. Which is why I think LG’s latest Door-in-Door refrigerator models are so great – they keep food at the optimal temperatures as well as offering smart organisation and really clever, door-in-door design to reduce cold air loss when the door is opened. It’s why I have an LG fridge in my own home.”

At the event, LG and Matt Moran worked together with Sydney Fish Market and the newly-opened Vic’s Meat Market (of Victor Churchill Butcher Shop fame) to demonstrate the importance of sourcing fresh ingredients, how to select the highest quality meats and seafood and how to best store these ingredients in LG’s Door-in-Door refrigerators.

Matt Moran began by showing how to select and store fresh fish and seafood. “What you want to look for when selecting fish from a market is bright, clear eyes and shimmery scales. That’s how you’ll know it’s fresh. To keep my seafood fresh, I store it in LG’s Door-in-Door refrigerators, and I really love hMatt Moranow the upcoming models feature a CustomChill™ drawer with four temperature settings. I usually keep mine at the lowest temperature, -1° C, which is ideal for storing seafood and meats.”

After selecting fresh seafood from Peter’s Fish Market, LG and Matt Moran then popped by Vic’s Meat Market, where Anthony Puharich, CEO of Vic’s Premium Quality Meat and Vic’s Meat Market, chatted with Matt about arming Australians with the know-how to select the best quality meats from their butcher shop.

“Have you ever noticed that whenever you’re selecting meats from a butcher shop, you tend to have a chat with the butcher? That’s because there’s a natural story there. It’s the story of how the meat came from paddock to the shop and will eventually go to your plate – from farmer to fridge.” Matt Moran said. “So understandably, you want to keep your meat at an ideal temperature – and that’s why, again I’d recommend LG’s CustomChill™ drawer setting at -1° C.”

Lambro Skropidis, General Manager Marketing at LG Electronics Australia, is also enthusiastic about Matt’s cause: “LG recognises the importance of provenance to Australians when selecting their ingredients.” he said. “Each ingredient – be it a broad bean, a mussel or a rack of lamb – has come on a journey from the producer to your plate. Together with Matt, LG encourages Australians to consider their refrigerator as a part of that journey to maintain the quality and freshness of their ingredients.”

Two-door freezer design

LG’s two newest Five-Door Door-in-Door models (GF-5D712SL and GF-5D906SL) feature a two-door freezer design, offering the same smart organisation for your freezer as with your refrigerator – which means that no longer is the freezer a black hole of ice, but instead a foodie oasis, where you can organise your frozen goods and home cooked leftovers however you would like, such as by type or date.

Customised temperature settings

(CustomChill™ drawer models only Q2 2015) Meanwhile, LG’s CustomChill™ drawer models will offer a drawer that can be set to different temperature settings depending on your need. Set to-1°C for farm-fresh meat or seafood, 1°C for cool lagers, 3°C for deli snacks or 5°C for champagnes or sparkling wines**. The drawer’s versatile settings suited for an array of fare.

Reduced cold air loss

LG’s Door-in-Door design helps to reduce temperature fluctuations that occur whenever the refrigerator door is opened. Moreover, using the Door-in-Door feature helps to reduce cool air loss by up to 41per cent (for model GR-D907SL) compared to opening one normal door***. Additionally, with a quick push of a button, Australians can access their most commonly-used ingredients for even further convenience.
