LG  Innovators’ Ball and LG Film Series will be among many highlights of the  Science Centre’s busy 40th Anniversary Year

Toronto,  March 9, 2009 - The Ontario Science Centre is pleased to announce LG  Electronics Canada has signed a three-year agreement to become title sponsor of  the Ontario Science Centre’s signature fundraising event, the Innovators’ Ball,  as well as a series of six IMAX  films to be shown in Ontario’s only IMAX Dome Theatre.

The LG Innovators’ Ball is the Ontario Science Centre’s signature annual fundraiser and one of Toronto’s premiere social events. Last year’s  gala raised $352,000 in net proceeds for the Science Centre’s community access and outreach initiatives, helping keep the Ontario Science Centre’s programs  and exhibitions accessible. Through the  Community Access Program, more than 50,000 children and adults visited the Science Centre throughout 2008.

Last  year’s sold out gala dinner attracted 470 guests, with another 1,000 attending an  amazing after-party. Now in its third year the ball will take place Thursday April 30th, 2009,  with internationally acclaimed chef Susur Lee set to create an extraordinary feast  for dinner guests. Visit for additional details.

Equally  exciting to the Science Centre is the LG Film Series which will be presented in  the 320-seat Shoppers Drug Mart OMNIMAX Theatre featuring the 70-mm film format developed in Canada. The six film Series will launch on Friday  April 3rd, 2009, with the opening of Under the Sea, an underwater adventure that transports the audience  to some of the most exotic and isolated coral reefs in the world.

“We are excited to support the Ontario Science Centre’s commitment  to engaging the public with science and technology and inspire innovative  thinking,” said Graham Robertson, Senior Director, Marketing, LG Electronics  Canada. “Technology is integral to our daily lives, and it’s important to give  everyone the opportunity to increase their science literacy."

“This multi-year commitment  from LG Electronics Canada will allow the Ontario Science Centre to continue to  pursue its goal of making science accessible and engaging to a wide range of  visitors,” said Lesley Lewis, CEO of the Ontario Science Centre. “Finding  inspiration and igniting curiosity in science can be life-changing for children  and adults, and we want to ensure that all members of the community have access  to such experiences.”
