“Emergency Calls Only”
Should the screen on your phone display the message “Emergency Calls Only” it basically means no normal call can be initiated other than 911 calls. Below listed are the few reasons causing that particular message to impede your phone calling abilities.
1. Are your subscription payments up to date?
Are payments to your wireless carrier to date? If not, your carrier may have turned your service off. Ensure carrier subscription payment is not in arrears so that your phone is returned to normal operation rather quickly.
2. Is the SIM card inserted properly?
Have you removed and reinserted SIM card recently for whatever purpose? If the SIM card is not inserted or seated properly, this risks causing phone to only allow calls to 911. Ensure SIM card is securely inserted into the slot. It may not hurt to remove it and re-seat it. Make sure it’s correct side up.
SIM card, Micro and Nano are all very small. They usually start off about the size of a fingernail getting smaller in size and located somewhere near the battery or in an eject tray on the side. If you don’t know where the SIM card is located on your device, have a look in the user guide documentation for information.
You may also want to try a different SIM card in case the card is faulty. Contact your wireless carrier for no charge replacement SIM card.
3. Is there a Service interruption?
Sometimes there can be issues with the carrier’s network that will cause phones on their network to not operate properly. In some cases, the phone will display the “Emergency calls only” message by default when this occurs.
4. Have you tried restarting the phone?
If all above troubleshooting tips fail at rectifying the issue, please try to power down your phone. Completely power it off. Do not simply do a restart. Turn it off, remove the battery, reinsert battery in place then let it sit for a few seconds before powering phone back on.
5. Last resort - Factory Reset
If you have tried all of the above solutions to no avail and the “Emergency Calls Only” message still persists, you may want to try to factory reset your device. A factory reset will wipe out all data from the phone’s memory. So be sure all data is backed up before proceeding with this option.
6. Bring your phone to your carrier outlet
Have the carrier representatives at the kiosk or retail outlet go through the same exercise just in case. Failure to correct the matter will necessitate service to the phone.
