Introduction of a new CDM project applying air-conditioners by LGEIL

  • LG Electronics Private Limited (hereinafter, referred as to “LGEIL”)is planning on developing a new CDM project applying energy efficient air-conditioners at residential areas in India. This project will contribute to emission reduction of greenhouse gases to mitigate global warming and sustainable development of India by reducing electricity consumption at demand side.
  • CDM is one of the mechanisms defined in the Kyoto Protocol (IPCC, 2007) that provides for emissions reduction projects which generate carbon credits named CERs (Certified Emission Reductions) which may be traded in emission trading schemes.
  • The purpose of the CDM is to promote clean development in developing countries. The CDM is one of the Protocol's "project-based" mechanisms; in that the CDM is designed to promote projects that reduce emissions.
  • LGEIL already had developed a CDM project by manufacturing & selling energy efficient refrigerators in Indian domestic market, and successfully registered to UN in 2013. CERs of 340,000 tCO2 were issued from UN by now, and it’s estimated that the CERs to be issued in the future is growing every year.
  • In this regard, LGEIL wishes to hold a meeting named LSC (Local Stakeholder Consultation) to explain a new CDM project applying air-conditioners, and have a Q&A time. The detail of the meeting is described as below:
    • Date: July 27th, 2019 (Time: 10.00~12.00 A.M.)
