Why is the Google Assistant key menu greyed out on my LG G7?

Why is the Google Assistant key menu greyed out?   The Google Assistant key menu is disabled if the Assist app is not set to the correct service.

To enable: 1. Open Settings > General tab > App & notifications > Default apps > Assist & voice input > Assist app 2. Set the Assist app to Enhanced Google service
