LG N2B1DD2 Customer Reviews

2TB Super Multi NAS with Blu-ray™ Re-Writer
Rated 5 out of 5 by from N2B1DD2 RAID support for FW ver 10124 Works! Initialize both drives. In the VOLUME screen where it says "Select a disk", select *BOTH* disks and click on Create Volume. When both disks are selected, the RAID/JBOD options are displayed. That screen should be changed to say "Select a disk OR DISKS". Time to create a mirrored volume with 2 x 1Tb drives took overnight but did complete and is working now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent hardware but poor support I had been running this successfully for several years, upgrading the firmware every so often whenever I checked to see if it was up to date. I upgraded to the new UI not realising that I was losing ALL RAID options including RAID 0 although I did read the upgrade text file - my fault for not understanding the readme file but I couldn’t believe LG would remove the central reason for a multidisk NAS - RAID! When I discovered I was only using 1 harddisk to store my valuable files and the other was idle I investigated my options. Copied all data to other disks then tried to load old firmware - no dice. Tried to enter “Enclosure mode” to reset to an earlier firmware - no dice and resulted in bricked device (Netboot message). After much panicked fiddling finally managed to unbrick and now updated to latest firmware to remove some serious security issues, reinitialised to use both disks (it is possible to map to both disks) and implemented suitable mitigation techniques. Overall the NAS hardware has been reliable (even though it uses WD Green not Red!j although the printer sever has been temperamental but the system has been let down by poor system support (addressing security issues) and poor firmware. This sort of device tends to be used for many years and need good and continued support - deleting the security compromised functions wholesale (RAID, JBOD, familycast etc.) is not adequate support!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AVOID! This device was, when purchased, as servicable NAS. After the latest update, however, it is UNUSABLE as a full featured network storage device. There is no support for basic features like RAID1 or JBOD. From what I can see, there is no way to map two drives at the same time. As a result, only one of my 3TB drives are being used. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER VERSION OF THE FIRMWARE (2660 or prior) DO NOT UPDATE TO THE NEW FIRMWARE!
