What people are saying

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Purchased floor model, didn’t work We purchased the floor model at Best Buy. After our contractor installed it, we found it did not work. The electronic display was malfunctioning and we could not get around it. Best Buy accepted the return for full refund and we purchased a different LG model. But we now have to pay the contractor extra to install the new one. We regret purchasing the floor model in the first place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Microwave. Had to wait a while to get installed but works so nicely and simple to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Unit (1) The output power of this microwave was mis-stated in the Best Buy spec sheet online, which was the primary feature I was seeking. I didn't notice the discrepancy until after the unit was installed and I was reading the LG manual itself. (2) The magnetron component failed after just 17 months, rendering the microwave unusable; at least it died within the 2-year warranty period. (3) Scheduling the repair/replacement is a difficult process with LG. They tend to assign appointments without first consulting to ensure it's a good day/time for the consumer, leading to multiple back-and-forth exchanges to get on the schedule. The technician-scheduling and parts-ordering/back-ordering functions do not appear to aligned, causing more difficulty in scheduling repair. (4) While this unit features the "Smart Tag" / diagnostic/issue reporting functions, I have never been able to get them to work in concert with the LG ThinQ app, adding to my frustration. (5) Overall, I have found that countertop microwaves are more powerful than the over-the-range units and easier to deal with.

Can I install this microwave as a built-in inside a cabinet?

Asked by: Flavior
The LG STUDIO 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Convection Microwave Oven, Model # LSMC3086SS is designed to be installed under your upper kitchen cabinet with a minimum height of 30" above the cooktop/countertop surface from the bottom of the cabinet and between kitchen cabinets that have a minimum clearance of 30" between the cabinets. You need to install at least one lag screw into a 2" x 4" stud and three anchor bolts into the wall. and the mounting area must meet the 150 lbs. weight requirement. You will then need to attach the mounting plate to your wall as directed in the installation guide using toggle bolts then lift the microwave oven and hang it on support tabs at the bottom of the mounting, plate, reach through upper cabinet, thread the power supply cord through the power supply cord hole in the bottom of the upper cabinet, and to insert a bolt down through each hole in the upper cabinet bottom to secure the microwave oven under the upper kitchen cabinet. Those are the only instructions we have for mounting the microwave oven and we do not have instructions for mounting it in a built-in cabinet so we cannot advise you on any other type of installation...^Ivan

Is this appliance suitable for use in an RV? Is the construction vibration and corrosion resistant? Does it have an option to vent to the outside? If so, are there adapter to work with the top or back vent setup of our RV?

Asked by: GoRVing
The LG STUDIO 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Convection Microwave Oven, Model # LSMC3086SS can be vented in one of three ways; Roof Venting, Wall Venting (rear wall), or Room Venting (recirculating). It is shipped from the factory set for roof venting by default. It is designed for installation between upper kitchen cabinets with a minimum allowable clearance of 30 inches between the baniets and the minimum allowable distance between the cooking surface or countertop surface to the bottom of theupper cabinet before installing the microwave oven is also 30 inches. A grounded 120V, 60Hz wall outlet with a 15A or 20A precircuit must be available inside the upper cabinet. The microwave oven comes with a rectangular exhaust vent adaptor for roof vent setup only which will need to be installed on the microwave for your ducts to fit. Other duct pieces are not included with the unit and must be purchased separately from your local home improvement store. To install the microwave oven in either a wall vented setup or recirculating setup, it will be necessary to rotate the blower motor to align the vent system for either setup. This unit is designed for household use only...^Ivan

Would this replace a toaster oven? Does it "crisp" food?

Asked by: Wisconsin987
The LG STUDIO 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Convection Microwave Oven, Model # LSMC3086SS will not replace a toaster oven. Microwave ovens and toaster ovens do not work the same way. Toaster ovens cook food using infrared radiation that is produced by coils with an electric current running through them. An individual oven may have one, two, or several coils. The heat generated by the coils warms the interior of the oven space and cooks the food from the outside in, producing a product that is cooked thoroughly on the inside and browned on the outside. Since a toaster oven’s coils heat food directly, this allows the cook to brown, caramelize, crisp, and toast foods, which are things a microwave cannot do. Microwaves, on the other hand, bounce electromagnetic waves throughout the oven space to heat the water in the food. These heated water molecules generate the heat that thoroughly cooks the food but does not brown or crisp the outside. The electromagnetic wave effect on liquid allows a microwave to quickly heat water for tea, a task impossible with a toaster oven. Other foods with a high-water content, fat content, or trapped liquid also cook well in a microwave...^IFV
