Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beware the Bluetooth! I'm a music teacher who managed to get my superintendent to purchase this system for my classroom a few years ago. It had all the features I needed, and set up was pretty easy. Sound was not bad (still find it odd that all of the EQ settings were basically just various genres of Latin music, but maybe I'm missing something). There have been two problems, however. First, after a few months, we discovered that there is no way to block access to the Bluetooth function. No password feature, no "off" setting, etc. to stop anyone (and I mean ANYONE) within range from pairing his/her phone and taking control of playback, even if the system was turned off! This was discovered by accident when the biology teacher next door began letting students play on their phones during class and quickly became common knowledge among the jr. high kiddos (I'm sure you can imagine the problems this caused). I contacted the manufacturer and they told me there was no way to stop this from happening, so I'm guessing it would be a problem for individuals who live in close quarters with their neighbors as well. The second issue is that a few weeks ago, it simply stopped producing sound! I'm checking to see what the cause is, but no matter how I try to play music (CD, aux, bluetooth), no sound comes out of the speakers (yes, I've checked cables and connections). It's also now struggling with reading CDs that I know are perfectly good, and will suddenly freeze up with "S PROTEC" on the display. I'm assuming that this stands for "surge protect," so I'm researching what, if anything, can be done to fix it (no, we didn't have any lightening storms or power surges at the school prior to this happening, yes, I tried multiple outlets, etc.). So, in short, it WAS a nice little system, BT can be hacked by your neighbors (both accidentally or on purpose), and it may just stop working after a couple of years.

Can I sync my home stereo with my tv

Asked by: Mikey Mike
Hello Mikey Mike. Please pardon us, but we are not clear on what you mean about if you can "sync" your home stereo with your TV. Did you mean if you can pair the LG XBOOM 700W 2.1ch Mini Shelf System with Built-in Subwoofer and Bluetooth®, Model # CM4550 with your TV? The CM4550 supports Bluetooth and it can be paired with other Bluetooth devices so you can stream audio wirelessly from the TV to the CM4550. If your TV is a Bluetooth enabled TV, you should be able to pair it with the CM4550. Check your owner's manual for your TV. If it supports Bluetooth, there should be instructions that describe how to pair it with other Bluetooth devices. The owner's manual for the CM4550 has instructions on page 22 that describe how to pair this unit to other Bluetooth enabled devices...^IFV

Can I connect a turntable to this system? I saw this question was asked three years ago, but never answered.

Asked by: rbhatt
Turntables can be added to any of our Mini Shelf Systems but how you connect them will depend on what type of turntable you have. The LG LG XBOOM 700W 2.1ch Mini Shelf System with Built-in Subwoofer and Bluetooth®, Model # CM4550 has an AUX IN (L/R) port on it that you can connect a turntable to. A turntable produces a PHONO output signal. This phono signal needs to be converted to a LINE LEVEL signal (sometimes referred to as AUX signal) to work with audio equipment including stereo systems, computers, and speakers. Older Stereo systems had a Phono Input that was designed for Phonograph turntables which had a built-in preamp to boost the signal and provide the RIAA equalization necessary to restore the original sound. Plugging an older phonograph turntable directly into an AUX IN will produce a weak and barely audible signal because the turntable has an extremely low output and requires a preamp to boost the signal up. AUX level inputs do not have a built-in preamp so you would need to purchase an external Phono Preamp that you can connect between the turntable and AUX IN on the Mini Shelf System. Some turntables have a built-in preamp so if you have such a turntable, you can plug it in directly into the AUX IN port...^IFV

Asked by: Rush12
Hi Rush12. The LG XBOOM 700W 2.1ch Mini Shelf System with Built-in Subwoofer and Bluetooth®, Model # CM4550 only receives Bluetooth audio signals and it does not transmit them. It does not have any ports that will output audio that you can attach a Bluetooth Transmitter to so you can transmit via Bluetooth...^IFV
