What people are saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but not perfect projector To preface, this is my first projector system which I upgraded over an older model 60" flat screen. I'm finding that its picture quality is first rate (love having near cinema quality viewing in my own home) and I love the portability/setup options. Its remote is pretty cool and much easier than toggling around. But it is far from perfect with a couple of large misses and quirky design. For example, it is missing critical integrated smart apps such as YouTube TV, Amazon Prime, HBO, etc. That meant I needed to purchase an upgraded 4K version of my Roku in order to watch all the streaming services I subscribe. While the quality of the Roku 4K picture is equally impressive, the HDMI1 plug in the rear projector compartment is too far to the right and a little too short. So instead of an ideal "hidden" compartment to plug in and protect my Roku, it has to stick out the side HDMI2 plug. Not end of the world but those little nuisances would make this projector even better. All that said, compared to what I would have had to invest in a traditional flat screen 4K television, I feel that this projector was a bargain overall -- still in awe of being blessed to watch sharp, large screen sports and movies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright, clear. Setup not easy. This projector is greatly superior to my last one, which cost around $1000 and broke after nine years. I have not succeeded in getting it to work with anything but my BluRay DVD reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Projector I have had three LG projectors before this one. I have been very satisfied with all of them. But this one is by far my favorite. The picture is amazing. Love the smart tv features. Even The built in speakers are okay for when it’s late at night and you don’t want to Distub other, however I have connected Bluetooth sound bar for all others times.

What type of screen is recommended for this HU80KA projector. I am looking for a portable screen to complement the portable projector. Please specify color, gain, etc. Preferably provide specific manufacturer, make, model. Thank you

Asked by: deesapa
Regrettably, LG does not recommend a specific type of screen for the LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA as this is something that you will need to speak to a projector specialist about so he/she can qualify you based on your needs. There is a variety of screens that will range from under $100 to over $2,000. Some are motorized screens, some are manual projector screens. There are two kinds of screen materials widely used for home theater. One is the traditional white that has been in use for decades, and the other is a light to medium gray. Gray screens are often called high contrast screens because their purpose is to boost contrast on digital projectors in viewing rooms that are not entirely dark. The gray screen absorbs ambient light that strikes it better than a white screen does. High contrast projectors, when used in a totally light controlled environment, should be used with white screens. However, a totally light controlled environment entails much more than just being able to turn the lights off. You need to consider the latent contrast value of your viewing room as well. You also need to consider if you plan to have a dark theater room, with dark walls, ceilings, furniture, carpets? Do you plan to view with no ambient light in the room, just as in a commercial movie theater? If the answer to these questions is yes, then your best solution is a white screen with a high contrast projector. The true videophile will go to great lengths to establish these viewing conditions-this is classic high-end home theater at its best. However, most home theater enthusiasts don't have the luxury of a dedicated, fully darkened viewing room. Projection systems are frequently set up in living rooms, multi-purpose entertainment rooms, and family rooms that have light colored walls, ceilings, drapes, etc. Thus, even when the lights are fully off, the light being reflected from the screen will bounce off of the reflective elements in the room and back onto the screen. In this situation, a gray screen will be more effective at killing this incident light and thus maintaining deeper black levels on the screen. We highly recommend that you speak to a projector specialist to determine which screen best suits your needs...^IV
