What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great solution Got the projector tv to have a space saving solution that was more attractive and equally functional to a regular tv. We are very happy with it. Functions beautifully for streaming, tv and gaming.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from High price tag for limited streaming apps. 4k is great if you have apps that can stream content. No HBO Go, No Prime Video, No DirectvNow, Etc... Another consideration is a screen. I've gotten no reply from LG as to what is the best material to use for a screen to get the best quality picture. We used a 4'x8' PVC board from Home Depot that worked pretty well, but that doesn't give the full 150" viewing area. I would wait to buy until there's more streaming apps available so you can actually use the projector. All the other features are top notch. WiFi, Bluetooth, picture, remote

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best there is but missing 2 important features Smart TV-not really. You can't control it with any voice assistant and it doesn't work with any SmartThinQ. Having a useless Netflix app doesn't constitute a Smart device. Also no DolbyVision is disappointing. We had it professionally installed with appletv 4K and I often have to reseat the cable to recognize HDMI1. Still we ordered it as soon as we closed on our new home and love it.

The owner's manual for the LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA recommends attaching a ceiling-type bracket with M4 x 8 mm screws with a recommended Torque of 4.34 ~ 6.94 ibf-in [5~8 kgf·cm]) to prevent damage to the case. Can i use my Bose sound bar to produce my surround sound?

Asked by: Mikey 121
Or just get a reciever/hdmi hub and connect everything to that. Connecting projectors to sound is never an issue that way. ARC support is great and wish my old system had it!

Can you hook a surround sound system up to a projector

Asked by: Nick7141
Absolutely! Just need a hub to connect all your sources. I use the old dvdo edge green with a wireless transmitter, and works great. no cables anywhere, just power cables out of sight. Newer and better products are available, or probably any a/v reciever would work. Just need to get the video signal to the projector and the wireless hdmi is wonderful.

What kind of signals can the HDMI input accept? like, is it only capable of digital or can it work with Adapter cables that terminate in other connections like DVI, Component vidio via RCA plugs, Composite video, etc?

Asked by: RKay
HDMI ports carry both audio and video signals. HDMI uses transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS) to move information from one place to another. TMDS is a way of encoding the signal to protect it from degrading as it travels down the length of the cable. The sending device, such as an HD-DVD player, encodes the signal to reduce the number of transitions between one (on) and zero (off). The encoding step helps protect signal quality by reducing the number of chances for the signal to degrade. One of the cables in the twisted pair carries the signal itself. The other carries an inverse copy of the signal. The receiving device, such as an HDTV, decodes the signal. It measures the differential or the difference between the signal and its inverse. It uses this information to compensate for any loss of signal along the way. There are a variety of cables and adapters available for connecting the HDMI connector to other types of connectors...^IFV

What is the color gamut? Just saying "high" is not precise enough. I am interested in using it to display photographic images. We typically look for a color gamut of at least 99% of Adobe RGB.

Asked by: PhotoNut
There are three setting options for Color Gamut on the LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA (Auto, Wide, and Extended). By default, the setting is set to Auto which is usually the closest to REC.709, however, the pre-calibration color gamut may show that the colors are off target which is mainly because all of the colors stem from the white point which in this case is quite blue/purple. So, improving the white point with the white balance calibration will make big improvements to all the colors. You will need to do a CMS calibration to correct the colors. There aren't any CMS controls available in the Standard mode. The improvements you see in the before and after CMS charts come from 2 picture settings, color temp being set from Medium to Warm and color gamut being set from Wide to Auto. Without CMS controls post-calibration color gamut is not good with blue over saturated quite a bit, magenta over saturated and running towards blue. Cyan also running towards blue and red under saturated, running out of gas around the 85% mark. Standard (HDR) mode does not have CMS controls either and improvements in the before and after CMS charts will come from setting the Color Temp from Medium to Warm. Without CMS controls post-calibration P3 color gamut is quite a mess. Red maxes out around 70% saturation but is not very linear with the lower saturation points (20%,40% & 60%) erroring towards magenta while the outer points (80% & 100%) moving towards yellow. Magenta is pushing towards blue and most likely would be improved with calibration, same with cyan. Other issues cannot be fixed with calibration. Like Red, cyan & green maxed out at 70% saturation and some of their saturation points sitting near or on top of each other, far from their targets. Only Blue and magenta reach 100% P3 color gamut...^IFV
