What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best there is but missing 2 important features Smart TV-not really. You can't control it with any voice assistant and it doesn't work with any SmartThinQ. Having a useless Netflix app doesn't constitute a Smart device. Also no DolbyVision is disappointing. We had it professionally installed with appletv 4K and I often have to reseat the cable to recognize HDMI1. Still we ordered it as soon as we closed on our new home and love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding quality of video I bought mine about a week ago and I am very satisfied with my whole experience with it. Mounting it using a ceiling mount was a breeze. The image quality on just a blank wall painted black was shockingly good. The screen arrives later this week. It is installed as part of a dedicated home theater and at its price range is a terrific value. Highly recommend this projector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed This isn't cheap, but I've been very pleased with the product. The only drawback, albeit limited, is the form factor. I use mine primarily as a ceiling-mounted projector, and the reality is that it was challenging finding a ceiling mount that really balanced this product well. The one I have works, but it's ultra-sensitive. LG would do well to create a ceiling mount specifically for this form factor. That said, I did like/desire the portability aspect as well, so it's worth it a slight annoyance when needing to adjust how the screen lines up. Otherwise I think this thing is outstanding. I love the software UI and though there is a serious need for additional apps (Google Play Movies; Movies Anywhere; YouTube TV, etc, etc) - it's pretty cool to have baked in apps on the projector itself.

What wall device doe I need besides the projector? Or Do I have to paint the wall with certain color? does it work with all types of walls?

Asked by: Armand9sep
Depending on who you talk to in the world of projector experts, projecting the LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA straight onto the wall can be anything from ‘probably inadvisable’ to ‘a cardinal projection sin’. The problem with your wall may be that it is not as flat as it looks. It may have many bumps, crevices or imperfections that can cause a tiny shadow on the surface of your picture which when multiplied across the whole wall can significantly reduce how bright and crisp the final image is, especially for a 4K projector. Even if you somehow managed to magically make your wall as flat as a projector screen, it still wouldn’t be all that good at directing and focusing the light from your projector back into your eyes. Put simply, the paint on your wall (however dazzlingly white it may be) is just not designed to respond to and reflect bright, focused light from projectors which has a massive impact on the image consistency and color. A white wall is not designed to cancel-out abstract and natural light. Specialised projector screens are tensioned in order to create the smoothest possible surface and has a special coating on it. This means less visual noise on the surface, which in turn means a sharper focus, unlike a white wall which is not designed to cancel-out abstract and natural light...^IFV

In the description of the product, there is a picture showing the ceiling mounted LG projector very close to the screen and yet it is projecting 150 inches of screen size. But in the manual,it says 171 in distance for 150 in projection. Which is true?

Asked by: tikku79
In the image showing the LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA mounted on the ceiling on our site, the picture is taken from behind and even though it looks to be "very close", there is no way to accurately determine the distance from that angle in a picture. In the manual, the projection distance for a 150" screen for a 1.2 x Zoom is given as 171.0" and at that projection distance for the 1.0 x Zoom, you would get a 125" screen size. The projection distances given in the manual are precise measurements...^IFV

To project on a 150 in screen, where should the center of the mounting bracket be in relation to the front wall? So how many inches back from the front wall at minimum do I need to center the mounting bracket? Thanks!

Asked by: chippool
If that is the case, the picture on LG website is very deceiving. It shows the projector mounted too close to the screen. No where close to 171 inches as indicated by the response above.

Will there be any updates versions of this coming out, similar to the PF projector line? I need something with a rear projection mode. And I'm not sure exactly where the technology is yet, but a projector with glasses-free 3D would be AMAZING!

For a museum installation, I need to project a 44" x 78" image at a distance of 4ft. Do you have a wide angle lens? If not, can an add-on camera wide angle lens converter be used?

Asked by: KLLMIT
We are assuming that the 44" x 78" image that you would like to project from 4' is the W x H dimension? The LG 4K UHD Laser Smart Home Theater CineBeam Projector, Model # HU80KA has a 1.2 x Zoom that will project a 40" screen from 45.1 inches that will have a width of 34.8" and a height of 19.6" and a 1.0 x Zoom that will project a 30" screen (29" (W) x 16.3" (H)) from 45.1 inches. The 1.2 x Zoom will project a 90" screen (78.4" (W) x 44.1 (H) but from 102.5 inches and the 1.0 x Zoom will project an 88" screen ( 76.2" (W) x 42.9" (H) from a projection distance of 118.9 inches or a 92" screen (79.8" (W) x 44.9" (H) from a projection distance of 124.2 inches. Regrettably, a screen size of 44" x 78" from 48 inches is not possible with this projector assuming that those are a width x height measurement. There is no way of adding an add-on camera wide angle lens converter to use with the projector...^IFV
