What people are saying

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Shortly after I purchased the monitor, the USB ports stopped working. I connected it to my Mac Mini. Now, when I wake the computer from sleep mode, the monitor won't come on. I get a message: "No signal entering the power saving mode shortly." I have turned off the power saving mode in the menu. I installed LG Screen Manager on my Mac from the App Store. The application says that it does not support my LG monitor. I very much regret my purchase.

When I enable "High Dynamic Range" on macOS Catalina 10.15.4, the colors get weird and the picture is unusable. Do I need to change some setting in order for HDR to work correctly with macOS?

Asked by: mv78
The newly released macOS 10.15.4 Catalina update for Mac that was released on March 25, 2020, delivers improved support for any High Dynamic Range monitor, including the LG 27'' Class 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor with HDR 10 (27'' Diagonal), Model # 27UK850-W. After updating to 10.15.4, users with monitors that support high dynamic range —or HDR —will now see a checkbox within the Display section of System Preferences. Ticking this box will automatically adjust the display to show high dynamic range content as you have done. Apple highlighted the change in the macOS 10.15.4 release notes. The company specifically noted, "customized reference modes that you can tailor to specific workflow needs by selecting from several color gamut, white point, luminance, and transfer function options." Additionally, Apple has published a new support document that explains how to use the new reference modes. These modes will allow advanced users to create tailored modes for different workflows by choosing different "color gamut, white point, luminance, and transfer function options". We highly recommend that you contact Apple for advice about the weird colors you are experiencing...^IFV

USB peripherals data transfer rate is only 480Mb/s. I have a USB-C 3 cable (not the included cable) connected from a 15" Macbook pro to the 27UK850, and a USB-3 hard drive connected to the monitor via the USB-A port. Shouldn't the internal hub be faster?

What monitor port will provide better video/screen performance PC to USB-C or PC to DisplayPort?

Asked by: Squeez8
DisplayPort doesn't just deliver the highest display performance available. Combined with the USB Type-C connector's high-speed data transfer and power delivery functions, DisplayPort over USB-C also enables single-port devices to deliver docking, charging, and data-transferring capabilities simultaneously. DisplayPort enables up to 4K at 60Hz through a single cable without the use of compression in products implementing the most recent version of the standard. USB-C is the shape of the connector but the underlying technology could be USB 2.0, USB 3.0 or USB 3.1.DisplayPort has a very similar physical layer to USB 3.1. USB 3.1 has four lanes — eight wires/pins — for differential Superspeed transport, along with the standard four pins for legacy USB 2.0 connections. The DisplayPort protocol also uses four lanes/eight wires. In VESA’s DisplayPort Alternate Mode, DisplayPort would simply take over some or all of USB 3.1’s Superspeed lanes. One lane — 10Gbps — would be more than enough for most display output scenarios, leaving plenty of bandwidth available for other applications. The only feature of DisplayPort that won’t work over the Type-C Alternate Mode is Dual-Mode DisplayPort (DP++), which means you’ll need to use active adapters if you want to plug the Type-C connector into an HDMI, DVI, or VGA socket...^IFV
