Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great When It Works These are great when they work. Extremely sensitive to power fluctuations. And 9/10 times if the device refuses to turn on, it's the EEPROM chip on the mainboard stuck in a loop, refusing to issue a power on voltage. There is a ton of replacement chips online and it's a relatively easy fix. The monitor's been out of production for some time, so it's pointless to worry about warranty. Buy one that won't turn on but is fine otherwise and swap your own EEPROM.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, while it lasts The Good: The monitor is REALLY sharp, great colour reproduction and easy to use menus with a plethora of options for connectivity. The Bad: QUITE often get screen tearing that can be mitigated by switching screen resolutions (but is a pain), and I find the screen VERY sensitive to shocks. The screen's main board have shorted on two occasions, both times connected to UPS power backups with surge protection. I've had the monitor board replaced once at 50% the cost of the unit (originally $1000) and now after a second failure with no interest to keep my business, i'm forced to consider the competition for a solution. What else can I say?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dies after the warranty runs out I decided to try LG against my better judgement. I'm usually a Samsung guy. I bought this monitor in July of 2015 and the warranty ran out in July of 2016. On March 6, 2019, my 31MU97-B Monitor died; I was cleaning a speck of dirt off of the screen with my finger and it suddenly went black. I tried everything- unplug, replug, new power and HDMI cables, nothing resurrected it. So, I got about four years of use out of it. In comparison though, I own an older Samsung U28D590D that I bought in July of 2014. My daughter has been using it and it still works like a champ- no dead pixels, no issues whatsoever and she games, does her college homework, and chats on Facebook; she uses her monitor way more hours than I do. I have now switched to Acer because of their 3 year warranty. I feel the company backs their products better than LG. I didn't buy another Samsung because, they too only offer a one year warranty. When you and I purchase high end 4K monitors (around $1,000+), we expect them to last at least till the next technology update (e.g. OLED). But, perhaps I'm expecting too much. Still, I'll keep trying different companies till one gets it right.
