What People Are Saying

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, while it lasts The Good: The monitor is REALLY sharp, great colour reproduction and easy to use menus with a plethora of options for connectivity. The Bad: QUITE often get screen tearing that can be mitigated by switching screen resolutions (but is a pain), and I find the screen VERY sensitive to shocks. The screen's main board have shorted on two occasions, both times connected to UPS power backups with surge protection. I've had the monitor board replaced once at 50% the cost of the unit (originally $1000) and now after a second failure with no interest to keep my business, i'm forced to consider the competition for a solution. What else can I say?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dies after the warranty runs out I decided to try LG against my better judgement. I'm usually a Samsung guy. I bought this monitor in July of 2015 and the warranty ran out in July of 2016. On March 6, 2019, my 31MU97-B Monitor died; I was cleaning a speck of dirt off of the screen with my finger and it suddenly went black. I tried everything- unplug, replug, new power and HDMI cables, nothing resurrected it. So, I got about four years of use out of it. In comparison though, I own an older Samsung U28D590D that I bought in July of 2014. My daughter has been using it and it still works like a champ- no dead pixels, no issues whatsoever and she games, does her college homework, and chats on Facebook; she uses her monitor way more hours than I do. I have now switched to Acer because of their 3 year warranty. I feel the company backs their products better than LG. I didn't buy another Samsung because, they too only offer a one year warranty. When you and I purchase high end 4K monitors (around $1,000+), we expect them to last at least till the next technology update (e.g. OLED). But, perhaps I'm expecting too much. Still, I'll keep trying different companies till one gets it right.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy. This is a very expensive paper weight. I have had this monitor for a couple of years. I just powered it off, and moved it to another desk and now it is dead. Then I search and find out that it is very common. I will NEVER buy another LG product. Do not waste your money. I'm sure this will get deleted.

What wall mount is compatible with this model? I have purchased a few and none of them are compatible due to the 5x5 indentation on the back of the monitor where the wall mount is supposed to be attached .

Asked by: Jaywass

How many pixels per inch "ppi" is this display?

Pixel Density pixels per inch ppi
Asked by: KennyBrandon
Hello KennyBrandon. Calculating the Pixel Density (PPI or pixels per square inch) for the LG 29" Class 21:9 UltraWide™ IPS LED Monitor (29" Diagonal), Model # 31UM97-B is actually a simple calculation. Just take the sum of the given horizontal resolution (4096) squared and that of the vertical resolution (2160) squared. Take the square root of that sum and divide by the diagonal measurement of the screen and you should get 149.4 PPI...^IFV

What is the "pixels per inch" for the LG Digital Cinema 4K Monitor (Model 31MU97Z)?
Asked by: stevedavq
Hi. You can actually calculate the PPI yourself. It's an easy calculation. Take the square root of the sum of the horizontal resolution (4096) squared and that of the horizontal resolution squared (2160) then divide the answer by the diagonal measurement of the screen, (i.e. 31") and you should get 149.38 pixels per square inch...^IFV

What frame rates does this support, does it accept an interlaced signal

Can it be calibrated? Using OS X? HDMI 2.0? Anyone using thes top grade? Do you have any larger displays with similar or better quality?
Asked by: brainburst
Hello brainburst. The LG 31MU97-B like almost all other monitors is natively progressive as are most computers. For the monitor to display an interlaced signal, the signal would have to be properly recognized as such and the de-interlaced somewhere within the chain (probably the video card, a decoder or the player you're streaming from) otherwise it will not display on the monitor. The 31MU97-B comes with a software CD included in the product packaging and after you install the LG Monitor Software and run it to install the True Color Pro Software which with a compatible calibrator which must be purchased separately will allow you to calibrate the monitor. As for the supported frame rates, you have an HDMI port that will support a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz. The recommended resolution is 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Then you have the (Mini) DisplayPort which will support a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz and the recommended resolution is 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz. If you would like more detail, please visit our site's page for this model and in the support section, you can download the owner's manual and on page 36 you can read the Factory Support Modes for Preset Mode, HDMI / (Mini) Display- Port PC...^IFV
