Sound Settings Menu - webOS 2.0 - Menu Settings

The LG TV Sound Menu settings allow you to customize your personal viewing experience. Below is a list of the available Sound Menu settings, click on any one to learn more.


Smart Sound Mode

Automatically optimize sound based on content type.

Note: An Internet connection is required to use this mode.

  • Off - Turns off Smart Sound Mode.
  • On - Turns on Smart Sound Mode.

Sound Mode

Optimize sound mode for each content type.

  • Standard - Suitable for all types of video.
  • News - Optimized for watching news programs.
  • Music - Optimized for listening to music.
  • Cinema - Optimized for listening in a low sound environment with programming meant for a theater experience.
  • Sport - Optimized for listening to sporting events.
  • Game - Optimized for playing video games.

Note: Depending on the input signal and TV model, the available range of sound modes may differ.

Sound Effects

Adjust audio effects.

  • Clear Voice II - Enhances voice clarity with one of three available clarity channels.
  • Virtual Surround Plus - Enjoy an immersive 3D soundscape with the virtual multi-channel surround sound effect.
    Note: Can only be selected in 2D mode.
  • 3D Sound Zooming - Adjust audio volume based on how far away the sound is coming from in a 3D signal.
    Note: Can only be selected in 3D mode.
  • Equalizer - Manually adjust EQ frequencies.
  • Balance - Adjust left/right audio balance.
  • Reset - Revert audio settings to default.

Note: Depending on the input signal or other sound settings, the range of detailed items for adjustment may differ.

Volume Mode

Adjust audio levels.

  • Auto Volume - Automatically equalize volume level across TV channels.
  • Volume Increase Rate - Select how much the volume should change with each press of your remote's volume key. Higher values increase increments.

Sound Out

Select device for audio output.

  • TV Speaker - Output sound through the TV's built-in speakers.
  • External Speaker (Optical/HDMI ARC) - Output sound through external speakers connected to the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT or HDMI IN (ARC) port. To use ARC mode, turn on the feature through SIMPLINK.
    Note: If the speakers are not properly connected and set up, you may not hear any sound through them.
  • LG Sound Sync (Optical) - Output sound through an LG audio device connected to the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT port. With this option, you can control the device's volume with your TV remote.
    Note: If you can't hear sound through the device, make sure it is working properly and supports Sound Sync.
  • LG Sound Sync (Wireless) - Output sound through a wirelessly connected LG audio device. With this option, you can control the device's volume with your TV remote.


    If using this option, you'll need to choose the playback device from the Device Selction screen. Click the Device Selection button below LG Sound Sync (Wireless) to access this screen.
    Note: If you can't hear sound through the device, make sure it is working properly and supports Sound Sync.

Note: External Speaker and LG Sound Sync (Optical) modes have an additional Digital Sound Out menu item. Auto will set the output type automatically by content type, PCM sets all output to PCM.

AV Sync. Adjust

Adjust audio timing or change audio output to synchronize video and audio.

  • AV Sync. Adjust - Move the slider to the right to enable AV synchronization adjustments.
  • TV Speaker - Sets a positive or negative audio delay for the sound generated by the TV speakers.
  • External Speaker - Sets a positive or negative audio delay for the sound generated by external speakers.
  • Bypass - Outputs the broadcast signals or the sound from external devices without any audio delay. The audio may be output before the video because of the time the TV takes to process the video input.

Sound Optimizer

Optimize sound based on type of TV installation.

  • Off - General sound mode.
  • Stand Type - Optimizes the sound when the TV is installed on a stand and the distance between the TV and the wall behind is 15in or less.
  • Wall-mounted Type - Optimizes the sound when the TV is mounted on the wall.

Sound Test

Check for problems with the sound quality of the built-in speakers.

A sound will be played and you'll choose whether you heard it or not. If the sound doesn't play, check the broadcast signal or connected external device. Information about the TV and who to contact will appear on the screen.
