What People Are Saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I bought this to replace a LG TV which I had previously bought approximately 7-8 years ago and which I was extremely happy with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb picture! In article after article, every reviewer always says that when you want the best picture quality possible you go with an OLED and after getting this TV home I can see why. I am upgrading from a 2016 LCD and the difference in clarity is stunning. While LCDs are getting better nothing can match the picture quality of this TV. The colors just pop and the amount of detail is amazing. I have already had a few people over and they are completely blown away at the picture quality. You can't really appreciate how good this TV is until you get it home. I know they are a bit more expensive, but trust me you won't regret getting one of these.

Can eARC send a DD 5.1 signal, or only Dolby Digital stereo and PCM? If so, does this require a technician setting like the optical output in previous years models did?

Asked by: JSS60
HDMI 2 on the LG C9 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (54.6'' Diag), Model # OLED55C9PUA supports Enhanced Audio Return Channel (also known as eARC) which is the next generation of ARC. It’s a feature that is implemented in the HDMI 2.1 specification. The main benefit of eARC is a big boost in bandwidth and speed allowing you to send higher-quality audio from the TV to a soundbar or AV receiver. It will deliver up to 32 channels of audio, including eight-channel, 24bit/192kHz uncompressed data streams at speeds of up to 38Mbps. This means all those high bitrate formats currently available on Blu-ray discs, 4K Blu-rays and some streaming services – Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and object-based formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X – will all be compatible. It will also pass Uncompressed and Compressed 5.1 and Uncompressed 7.1. You can configure the Digital Sound Out settings in the TV and when set for PCM, any Sound Input will be output as PCM. When set to Auto / PassThrough, the format that the sound input is will be output through the HDMI eARC port, except for HE-AAC which will be output as Dolby Digital...^IFV

Can you confirm that eARC works for all sources that are connected to the TV that also support it? There are reports the eARC is only working for internal apps and not something like a PC

Asked by: GCTuba
The issue as reported by reviewers who have tested the eARC port on the LG C9 77 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (76.7'' Diag), Model # OLED77C9PUB with a PC is not that eARC does not work for all sources connected to the TV that also support it, but that the autodetection system in a PC detects the TV as a stereo system (i.e. 2-channel) and therefore it cannot send 5.1 or 7.1 audio to the TV and that the only way to achieve this is to bypass the PC's autodetection system...^IFV

When I play video from the internal player or the emby app, eARC works just fine, however when I connect something like a PC/PS4 to an HDMI input and try to pass the sound to the receiver, it limits me to only 2 audio channels. Is there a way to fix this?

How does LG suggest getting a 4k 120hz signal to the TV? As far as I know no graphics card will output that signal through HDMI and I haven’t found a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that can handle bandwith above 4k60.

Asked by: 4k20
I have an Xbox One X and it will not output to 120 Hz at 4K with this TV, even with an HDMI 2.1 cable. Does LG limit this to a certain port? Maybe my cable is bad (even though its brand new)? Really looking to see if anyone has ever successfully gotten this TV to accept a 120 Hz signal at 4K?

How are these new models going to deal with transcoding dolby atmos for digital output? My Sonos playbase is only compatible with dolby digital (DD). Will c9 transcode atmos to offer DD output via toslink/optical? Thanks

Asked by: Fantspak
Hi Ivanf, as Dolby Atmos signal is hidden into the bitstream of DD+ or Dolby True HD, and those formats are apparently transcoded by the LG OLED Smart TV to output via Optical link as Dolby Digital (DD) (as stated in https://www.lg.com/uk/support/product-help/CT00008334-1437136020872-others), at least theoretically, LG OLED C9 should be capable of transcoding Dolby Atmos signal into DD 5.1 to be out via optical link.

What is the input lag on the LG C9 series TVs? You have stated 13 ms before but there are reports from calibrators with the C9 in hand saying the input lag is actually 21 ms.

Asked by: GCTuba
Input Lag is not an official television specification and regrettably, you will not find it listed in the specifications for the LG C9 77 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (76.7'' Diag), Model # OLED77C9PUB nor for any of our other TVs. However, they are online sites that review some of our TVs and they will test them for Input Lag and report it on their sites. They are several methods available for testing Input Lag and the results will vary depending on which Input Lag Testing Method is used. What we specifically announced abut the input lag for our OLED TVs was that "outside of VRR, the TVs will deliver 13 ms input lag in 1080p and 4K HDR". Input Lag will also vary depending on whether it is tested for 1080p @ 60 Hz, 1080p @ 60 Hz Outside Game Mode, 4k @ 60 Hz, 4k @ 60 Hz + HDR, 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:4:4, 4k @ 60 Hz Outside Game Mode, 4k @ 60 Hz With Interpolation, 1080p @ 120 Hz, 4k @ 120 Hz, 4k with VRR or with with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) switched on. Does it have gigabit wired ethernet? If not, is it possible to use a usb gigabit ethernet adapter? (Understood this is not needed for netflix, etc, but interested in streaming over local network with plex and bitrates exceeding 100Mbps)

Asked by: jbendavid
Hi Ivanf, If the tv can support a usb ethernet adapter, then it should be capable of gigabit link speeds through such an adapter, albeit limited to 480mbps minus overhead from the USB 2.0 ports. This however depends on driver support being included in the (presumably linux kernel) OS for commonly supported usb ethernet chipsets. So the remaining question is whether the TV/OS has support for usb ethernet adapters as an alternative to the built-in ethernet port.
