Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb picture! In article after article, every reviewer always says that when you want the best picture quality possible you go with an OLED and after getting this TV home I can see why. I am upgrading from a 2016 LCD and the difference in clarity is stunning. While LCDs are getting better nothing can match the picture quality of this TV. The colors just pop and the amount of detail is amazing. I have already had a few people over and they are completely blown away at the picture quality. You can't really appreciate how good this TV is until you get it home. I know they are a bit more expensive, but trust me you won't regret getting one of these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Huge upgrade from my LCD! This is the first tv that I have bought since 2011. I bought Samsung's flagship LCD in 2011 and that was a great TV but has now really become dated in 2019. I debated for a long time on whether to go OLED or QLED for my new tv and finally decided on OLED because I think it is a technology that will age better. So I hooked up my C9 and it is a huge upgrade. The picture is the best I have ever seen. Content in 4K and HDR are mind blowing. I primarily use this for watching sports and gaming (PS4 Pro) and I have been extremely happy with the performance so far. I also think the smart TV interface is really easy to use and very responsive too. I like that they integrated Netflix and Amazon video directly into the remote as well. Not a game changer in my opinion but it is convenient and something that I don't take for granted. My only one complaint is that I do not think the sound is great on the TV. I have messed around with several settings and I seem to have a little trouble getting the balance right where voices are loud enough and then other sound (music, sound effects, etc.) is not too loud. I have also noticed that occasionally the sound seems to be a bit tinny. The sound performance is the only thing that prevents me from giving this 5 Stars. Picture is amazing and I think eventually I will just buy an external sound system to use with this TV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pictures I am happy with this product. Good pictures, better quality compare with another brand name.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good This first complaint I have is that documentation was incomplete. No paper hard copy user guide was included with the tv. I know you all think that electronic copy is just as good but a it’s not near as on convenient as a hard copy in your hands. Second: the picture lacks a lot. I’ve noticed wide vertical bands of red and blue color across the screen. It’s annoying and it stays there as scenes change. This might be banding but it’s not like banding I’m accustomed to. Otherwise it’s an adequate product but certainly not what I expected and not worth the cost. I can honestly say I have never written a review this critical of a product or service before. In the future I’ll be reluctant to purchase another LG product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic TV: Top of the Line! Because of the outstanding product quality and new features that are included with new models every year, this is now the fourth LG UHD/OLED TV that I have purchased in the past five years and this model truly raises the bar. The picture quality is truly remarkable. Taking advantage of the Calman auto-cal feature and internal pattern generator built in to the TV, I was able to achieve 99.4% grayscale accuracy and 99.6% color accuracy. Movies in dolby vision and HDR are truly breathtaking. The faster processor makes a noticeable difference when operating the TV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent color reproduction The colors look great with the new LG C9. You need a real great source to make the most of this TV (4k dvds or high definition streaming). Netflix looks and sound great with Dolby Vision. I like there are a lot of ports and you can output sound to a sound system and headphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing tv Bought this tv about 2 weeks ago. It’s an excellent tv. Did not understand what the big deal with Oled until I saw 4K uhd movies and now I get it. This is the tv to own for movies, they look terrific. I also use it for video games, and games look stunning, I have yet found a game that does not look good on this tv. I also watch sports and cable on it. The web os is awesome, smooth, responsive. And using this to stream content is great, uhd along with hdr and Dolby vision content, again I repeat this TV is the best for movies! My only drawbacks are the speakers aren’t the greatest, the stand helps with the volume, but I currently have it mounted. I’d recommend getting a soundbar. The other problem is I have an external hard drive with movie files on it, not all movie files are capable of playing on this tv, while on my previous tv that’s 3 years older, plays every video file on my hard drive. Also no hbo go on this tv, you have to have another smart device to get hbo go on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible TV!! I was waiting on the C8 to drop in price so long the C9 came out and I had to figure out a way to get it. Having HDMI 2.1 support was critical to my decision and I am not regretting at all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable picture. Best picture I have ever seen. Admittedly not as much of an improvement over the old plasma screen tv it replaced but, I still have some calibration to do to better suit the room. Regardless, the colors just pop, the definition in the picture is almost 3D and the minimalist design suits my tastes to a tee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Screen I’ve only had this TV for a little over two weeks. My main complaint is that it is so awesome to watch, I have a hard time pulling myself away from the TV! The screen is phenomenal: colors are dynamic and pop off the screen. Blacks are just that—black. I watch a fair number of b&w films and they are rendered gorgeously on this screen. It’s easily the next best thing to sitting in a movie theater. Although some have raised concerns about brightness levels on OLED screens, that is simply not a problem. My tv sits about 11’ from a large patio door and windows and even in the brightest daylight, the screen still displays things perfectly. It is simply without equal in the home video world. The set up and connections were simple. I have a satellite box and 4K DVD player hooked up, but spend more time watching Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Switching among them is a breeze. The Magic Remote is fine for what it is. Would be nice if it had dedicated buttons to change the screen aspect ratio (with zoom, full screen, etc) and a more fulsome compliment of dvr/dvd type pause, ff, etc buttons, but that’s a relatively minor quibble (except when watching satellite, when they would be handy). I cant speak to the integrated sound system, as I have it hooked up to a receiver and speaker array, which I suspect most people buying this sort of set would have. With HDMI 2.1 connections, a brilliant screen, and relative ease of set up and use, I cant imagine considering another TV for home use unless you are going the projector route and are willing to live with those limitations. Thus far, however, I am more than pleased with my purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice picture... when the room is dark. Bought this and I loved the tv when it was dark out. I have huge windows facing a lake, everywhere in my living room with tons of light and I found out this is not the tv for that kind of room. Could not get ARC working with my Denon receiver, tried everything I could find online, with two different chats to lg technical support, which ended up not helping and the response both times seemed to be from people who did not have a good grasp of the english language to understand exactly what my issue was with the ARC. Tried to live with the tv for 28 days before I ended up exchanging this for a samsung q90r and that looked way better in a brighter room. Also as soon as I hooked up the hdmi cable on the new samsung the ARC instantly worked to my home receiver, not sure what the problem with the LG was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Gets Even Better! So far, I am completely blown away by this TV. I thought my 2016 LG OLED TV was good...and it was. But they have really taken it to a new level with the improvements over the last 3 years. The overall picture quality of OLED can not be beat - that's long been the consensus amongst us audio/video-philes. But the fact that they were able to take the best and make it even better...well, it's nothing short of amazing. The truest blacks you will ever see on a TV, now with even brighter brights and better HDR. It's a truly breathtaking visual experience and let's face it - when you buy a TV the #1 most important thing is the picture quality. Not only is the OLED screen itself a site to behold, but LG has included all the settings you could possibly need to fine tune it exactly to your taste. The first thing I would suggest is turning off TruMotion - this is what causes the "soap opera effect" that makes movies and TV shows look like they were filmed using cheap home video cameras. Although for some crazy reason every TV manufacturer ships TV's with this type of feature enabled by default so I think a lot of people just thing it's the way modern TV's are supposed to look. It's not! Turn it off! The other settings can be set to your taste and there are plenty of places online to get expert suggestions on those as well. But suffice it to say, this TV has every setting you could possibly want to get the best picture on the best tv in the world! But LG didn't stop at that. The "Smart" aspect of this TV has me as a gadget geek just absolutely giddy! This is also a huge improvement over my 2016 model. The remote is much improved and sets nicely in your hand and works as easy as a mouse with a computer. And when you press the mic button, magic happens - you can search for a show or movie and LG will display everywhere it's available that you have connected to - Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu - as well as all the places you can buy or rent it - Fandango, Google PLay, Vudu. No more switching from app to app trying to find it - LG does it for you! But that is just the beginning - this TV also has the Google Assistant built in. Check the weather - or your calendar - or turn off your smart lights all from your TV remote. And the way it displays responses is brilliant - it doesn't take over your whole screen. You can still have your show or game going - it just shows on the bottom or the side. It's awesome. Needless to say I am BLOWN away by this amazing OLED TV!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice TV. The TV has lots of advanced features. It takes a while to explore them all. I prefer the Frontier FIOS channel guide, but its easy to pull it up instead of the LG guide. Also, the buttons for Amazon Prime and Netflix on the remote are very convenient. Great TV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic picture I've had this TV for 3 weeks, and am very happy with the picture. Dolby Vision Blu-ray discs look stunning, as advertised, but I'm also very happy with upscaled streaming content like HBO and YouTube TV. I was concerned that some reviewers have not been happy with sports on LG OLEDs, but I think the NBA and NHL playoffs look great. I adjusted the sports mode to turn down the oversaturation, and turned on OLED motion, and find this works great with no noticable blur or jumpiness. The built in apps work fine, but I already had a Chromecast Ultra that is better integrated with Google Assistant, so I tend to use this for most things. A casual user might be a bit overwhelmed by all the modes and options, so I suggest reading one of the reviews like for a setup overview, but if you are willing to invest 20 min or so, you can get the best picture for all of your content.

I enjoy that LG keeps up with the market to offer the consumer the best quality features such as Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and HDMI 2.1. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of the Best I have had this equipment for less than of month, and so far, great performance. It would be a great help for "non-techies" if there was a detailed operators manual, which I haven't been able to find. This is especially true for the Magic Remote. Once I get is all figured out, I expect many happy years of use. KenRueter

Whats the optimum viewing distance for LG Electronics - OLED77C9PUB TV.

Asked by: Arnob01
The Guidelines from the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers recommends sitting at a distance where the screen fills up about 30° of your field of vision as a minimum for a good experience. This generally provides good guidance, but users that use their TVs mostly for watching movies might benefit from sitting a bit closer to get a more theater-like. The SMPTE "reference" position for movie theaters and the THX recommendation is about 40°. The minimum angle of vision works well for most usages though and sitting at a distance where the screen fills 30° of your horizontal field of view should be comfortable for most people. The Recommended Mixed Usage Distance (30°) for an 80" screen which is the closest to the LG C9 77 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (76.7'' Diag), Model # OLED77C9PUA by screen size is 10.9' (3.31 m) and the Recommended Cinema Distance (40°) for an 80" is 8' (2.44 m)...^IFV

I just bought OLED77C9PUB at Best Buy. The sales guy tried to sell me a $350 surge protector/power strip. What surge protector/power strip do you recommend? How many joules should one have?

Asked by: Menedobandido
You will need to consider the gear that you will plug into the surge protector other than the LG C9 77 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (76.7'' Diag), Model # OLED77C9PUB since surge protectors have more than just one port. TVs and home entertainment centers will call for a more robust surge protector than some other electronics. Check to make sure that it has the UL seal and that it at least meets their UL 1449 standards and that it is s transient voltage surge suppressor. Check the surge protector’s energy absorption rating, and its “clamping voltage.” The absorption rating is, as the name implies, how much energy it can absorb before it fails. You’ll want something at least 6-700 joules or higher. (Higher is better here.) The clamping voltage is the voltage that will trigger the surge protector—or essentially when the surge protector wakes up and starts absorbing energy. Look for something around 400 V or less. Lower is better here. Finally, see if response time is listed in the product details—it’s good to know, and lower is better. You will also want to check the warranty. Some surge protectors warranty the devices connected to it for some amount of damages if a power surge does get through. Check to see what’s covered (and what isn’t), and how you can file a warranty claim if the surge protector fails...^IFV
