What People Are Saying

Rated 2 out of 5 by from MAJOR RUST PROBLEM I see I'm not alone in having a tremendous rust problem around the top bleach/conditioner dispenser. Started soon after purchase and has just gotten worse and worse over time. I've attacked it repeatedly with CLR and Comet and elbow grease but that just seems to make it madder so it rusts faster. Rust has now spread beneath dispenser and rust now can be seen on the front of the machine even with the lid closed. Rust has eaten its way between the metal and enamel so that the whole area surrounding the dispenser is rough and raised and discolored so the machine looks like it has a bad case of small pox. Its so unsightly that a friend staying with us recently encountered the "rust pox" when he opened the top to load his laundry, recoiled, said a nasty word, and declined to wash his clothes in our machine despite our assurances that it still washed clothes just fine. I seriously doubt this is the reaction LG is striving for when a newcomer encounters an LG machine. Clearly there's some significant defect in the manufacturing process that LG must address if it wants to keep marketing this machine. I could not in good conscience recommend this machine with its obvious rusting problem. II

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too many error codes I was so excited to get my washer. Purchased this one because it would allow me to do bulky bedding and used minimal water. I am now so frustrated because the machine is constantly stopping with error codes. I had purchased the maintenance plan and the machine has been serviced but still having problems. Btw never purchase Sears maintenance. Their customer service is the worst! Will by local from an independent next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic all around Absolutely LOVE it. I am searching for things to wash in it. Only thing that would make it any better is if it would put it all away for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Washes great but... We purchased this washer a few years ago but it has a large problem that LG has yet to correct. The top portion around the bleach dispenser will start rusting after just a year or two. I have tried to fix the problem with no avail and this happens to every one of their washers. If you do internet research you will find never ending examples of this same problem. Other than this problem it does a great job but when you have to rewash items because they have rust stains on them becomes expensive and a hassle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst washing machine I purchased this washing machine and it’s rusting. There is no reason for washing machine to rust from the top. I will never buy an LG product again

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not wash Bought this over a year ago worst washer we have had in Fifty years. The settings are worthless they do not provide the proper levels of water. We have to add water to so the clothes can get wet,and the worst thing about this Mode is there is no good agitation and with out that its a wast of power, water and products used. All the people that have asked us we say do not buy.

Having the same problem numerous other people have with rust around the dispenser. Not only does it look bad, it is ruining linens & clothing with rust stains that do not wash out. Is there a solution to this problem or do I have to replace the washer.

If you change the soil level to high, does the back and forth motion of the impeller/agitator become more forcefully or faster when washing?

Asked by: Jvvv
As described on page 22 of your owner's manual for the Energy Star Qualified LG 4.9 cu.ft. MEGA Capacity High Efficiency Top Load Washer, Model # WT5270CW, "Each cycle has default settings that are selected automatically. You may also customize these settings using the cycle modifier buttons. Press the button for the desired modifier until the indocator light for the desired setting is lit. The washer automatically adjusts the water level for the type and size of your wash load for the best results and maximum efficiency." Then under SOIL LEVEL on the same page, it explains that "Adjusting the soil level setting will modify the cycle times and/or wash." NOTE adds that "This feature needs more time for heavily soiled loads or less time for lightly soiled loads" The reason for needing more time is because the "HEAVY" Soil Level takes time to add more water. It also modifies the wash action aggressive wash action.. ^AC

Can I wash throw rugs in this machine?

Asked by: JoycePunt
It is highly recommended that you not wash any water-resistant items in this ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.9 cu.ft. MEGA Capacity High Efficiency Top Load Washer, Model # WT5270CW if possible. IF you must, you will need to select the Bulky/Bedding cycle. Some rugs have arubber underside which makes them water-resistant so will need to check if your rugs do. They should have a garment label on then that you should follow for their care or you can contact the manufacturer for advise on if they are safe to wash in High-Efficiency washing machines...^IFV
