Pretoria, South Africa, 9 June 2008, LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics is dedicated to improving South Africans live even through small contributions. Two weeks ago a group of thugs broke into a home in Pretoria and ransacked a house while holding a 17 year old boy and his housekeeper hostage.
The young man, Marcé Bester and were forced to lie on the floor while the thugs ransacked the house. However, the robber did not know that this was not an ordinary young man. Marcé is a Leukemia patient and has a strong will to live. When their hostage keeper went to inspect what the others were doing in other parts of the house, the brave teenager snuck into his parent’s room. Marcé opened the safe, loaded the gun and went to confront the thugs. He warned the robbers to leave the house otherwise he was going to shoot. They needed a bit more motivation so he let of three rounds and they all started running and left the house. “I’m just glad that Linah and I are safe. With all the stories you read in the newspapers lately, the situation could have been much worse,” says, Marcé.

“We are very happy about Marcé’s reaction as he probably saved his own and Linahs life,” says Mrs. Bester, Marcé’s mother. Once we started going through the house we were disappointed to discover that, Marcé cellphone & laptop had been taken which he had received from the Reach for a Dream Foundation a year before.

LG Electronics received a phone call from one of their suppliers, and was more than happy to assist the Bester family. “We are proud to be able to help and replace the laptop and cellphone that was stolen. This was an emotional story from the first phone call, but visiting Marcé in intensive care, while he is receiving Chemo to hand over the goods was truly an inspiration. This young man is so confident and optimistic, it is proof that Life is Good,” says Michelle Potgieter, marketing director of LG Electronics South Africa.

If every person in South Africa can make a difference our country will be a better place. LG Electronics is dedicated to enhancing South African’s life with our products.
