LG makes “Life Taste Good” for aspiring chefs
Johannesburg, 13 September 2009 - LG Electronics, the global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics announced the winners of its “Life Tastes Good” cooking competition which was held over the weekend at Sandton City.
Competitors countrywide were invited to enter one of two categories, the “LG Quick Fire Challenge” for Hotel and Cooking School Chef students and the LG Team Cooking Competition for teams of two cooks, excluding qualified or professional chefs.
The “Quick Fire” Winner, Nerina van Niekerk received an LG SolarDOM for herself in addition to winning an LG SolarDOM light oven for her cooking school - Capsicum Hotel School. The team category winners, Lourens Engelbrecht and Heinrich Botha received R20,000 in cash, a new LG SolarDOM light oven each and a trip to Korea to participate in the international finals to crown the best global chef.
“South Africa’s amateur chefs have a great love affair with this competition,” said Dr. Michelle Potgieter, Marketing Director for LG Electronics South Africa. “Our two local winners last year ended up beating contestants from all over the world to bring home the international title, so there is a lot of pressure on this year’s team!”
As part of the overall proceedings, South African celebrities, Mnet’s “Gary the Tooth Fairy,” TV Personality Ashley Hayden and comedian John Vlismas competed against each other to win R25,000 for a charity of their choice. The final winner, John Vlismas presented a marvellous cheese and caramelised onion quiche, chevin and pomegranate salad to clinch the Celebrity title with the prize money being equally split between two charities in the Imizamo Yethu township outside Hout Bay in Cape Town. Half of the prize money will go to the Nothluthando crèche for disabled children, while the other half is destined for Siyazama – a crèche with 65 children and only 2 teachers.
