LG Supports Abraham Kriel Childcare with Donation of Electronic Goods

Johannesburg, South Africa, 23 July 2009 – LG Electronics South Africa today handed over appliances and electronic goods to the value of R200 000 to The Abraham Kriel Childcare. The handover forms a part of LG’s corporate social responsibility programme which is aimed at making life good for those in need.

Abraham Kriel Childcare serves over 770 abandoned, abused and neglected children in Gauteng. “As with any non-profit organisation,” explains Paul Momsen, CEO of Abraham Kriel Childcare, “we rely on the generosity of donors and sponsors to ensure that we continue to care, protect and provide functional facilities for the children residing at the three campuses and seven satellite homes in Johannesburg.”

The sponsorship by LG will provide a range of electronics items including refridgerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, laptop computers, data projectors, televisions and DVD players to the houses where the children are accommodated.

Dr Michelle Potgieter, Marketing Director of LG Electronics South Africa explained: “At LG Electronics we hope that we can make the lives of the abused, abandoned and neglected children at Abraham Kriel Childcare a little bit better by ensuring the place of refuge is able to adequaltely provide top-class facilities for the children it cares for.”

“The sponsored LG electronic goods will provide increased housekeeping capacity, food storage and better entertainment facilities for the children while the technology products will benefit the administration and mangement of the campuses,” said Dr Potgieter.

Abraham Kriel Childcare’s main campus is situated in Langlaagte in the South-West of Gauteng. Two additional campuses, satellite homes and their Early Childhood Development Centre are situated across Johannesburg in Yeoville, Emdeni –Soweto and on the East Rand.

“The organisation is committed to long-term, holistic care that will significantly impact the development of children in need, so that they have the opportunies of productive and rewarding lives and for this we thank LG for its commitment to Abraham Kriel Childcare and the children” concluded Momsen.
