What People Are Saying

Rated 2 out of 5 by from repair documentation is very poorly written Refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling properly, freezer and refrigerator. There are several fans (4) which all are running, as is the compressor. The test switch on the main control board reveals no error messages yet it is only cooling about 10 degrees below ambient air. Found and downloaded the repair manual, which does not even show the location of the temperature sensor in the refrigerator section, is 'generic' for disassembly of most components even thought this is a pretty unique design, and leads you in circles for troubleshooting. Bottom line is if you have lots of time you can try one thing at a time as it is impossible to do all the testing listed at various connectors without cutting wires, and even then you cannot find how to replace certain parts. I managed to remove the cover in the freezer section to access the sensor and fuse, plus the fans and defrost heater, which all tested within normal limits per the manual. I replaced the thermistor and fuse just in case the thermistor was not 'linear' in response even though it tested OK at room air temperature for resistance. BUT nowhere in the repair manual is the refrigerator sensor mentioned even though it is obviously located at the top of the refrigerator but to test or replace would require cutting wires and splicing in a replacement if one is available. Learning as I go on this model due to horrid documentation, and I can fix anything with proper documentation so this is costing me time and money as I try things on their most likely to least likely list. In the end it COULD be the main control board but that is the most expensive part short of the compressor itself, and you only know it is defective if replacing it fixes your problem. Note I have already (two years ago) had to replace the control board for the ice dispenser but there were no error codes. I just took out the old one and thought there was evidence of excess heat on the board so I replaced it and fixed the problem. The trick was there was no real guidance on how to remove the ice chute and panel properly so now I have a chute and panel trim with broken tabs. This is not my first LG product but is clearly is the worst LG product I have purchased and if they cannot produce a properly (and complete) repair manual I won't buy another LG product. I will be checking for supportability ahead of purchase from now on. I had a failure of an LG Split Air conditioner and "guessed" by the symptoms it was the main control board in the outdoor unit. I guessed right but I would rather have replaced a transformer, chip or relay than the whole board at $165! When LG products work they are great. When they break they are a royal pain to service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fancy Looking but still LG Junk Bought unit based upon looks, we failed to realize all the issues LG has with French Design Refrigerators. Our "sealed system" failed during the warranty however LG chose not to include labor. This causes a substantial cost to consumer whom already paid 2300.00 or more for this unit. Poor service and even poorer reliability.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Died after 4 years I purchased this fridge 4 years ago. The outside is easy to clean and the pull out drawers are great to store freezer pizza's, waffles etc for the kids. After 3 years the drawers cracked and the door seal fell off. I replaced the items and chalked it up to normal wear and tear. Unfortunately, last week the ice maker went and the freezer stopped working. I called several appliance places, only to find out that many do not service LG appliances. When I finally got a repair tech to come out, he looked at it and told me I had a coolant leak. best case it would be $400 to fix , worse case $600 and that was just to fix the freezer. The ice maker was a separate issue because it was not putting water into the system. I was given a worse case repair bill of $1,000 to fix. He told me I would be better off buying a new fridge. I have bought two appliances from LG (a washing machine) both have crapped out before 5 years. Never again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plenty of Room Purchased Nov 2010. Died May 2016. LG said they would pay for sealed system parts but I had to pay for LG authorized service. September 18, still waiting for parts backordered. Very disappointing. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Stopped working after 4 short years We've had our LG for only 4 years and during that time 1 drawer broke (don't know how) and now it stopped working all together. I have never been so disgusted and upset with an appliance breaking after just 4 short years. I originally bought it because I thought it was a good deal for the money but shortly realized that you get what you pay for. We are by no means rough with our fridge and 1 of the drawers broke last year. It very easily got 2 small dents in the front , the ice maker jams up and won't give you ice all the time, there is no light to get your water/ice and now of all things it started making noise in the middle of the night and by morning was no longer cooling and crapped out. I have never had a problem with any appliance I have owned in such a bad way like this LG French door refrigerator. I would have to suggest to stay away from LG now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slight Modifications Needed I can't say enough good things about the interior of this fridge: very constant temperature, adjustable half shelves for individualized storage, no seal leaks in 5 years of use, easy to access/replace the water filter, large storage bins on the doors and inside, quick ice maker with large storage container when family and friends are around, can hold/store extremely large amounts of food. The only negatives I've found are that, although the bottom freezer is a dream, I have had a few items drop behind the drawers, and when they do, it's hard to retrieve them and you can't shut the freezer until you do. The exterior surface holds onto and shows every fingerprint, drip, etc., and is difficult to keep looking clean, even with stainless steel cleaner wipes. Also, the access port to the ice and water dispenser is not tall enough for full sized glasses, so you have to get your ice/water in a shorter glass, then transfer it to the glasses being used. I wish this model offered shaved ice in addition to the half moon cubes it produces. For the most part, though, it's a wonderful product that I enjoy using.
