BURNT RUBBER SMELL

Burnt rubber smell behind refrigerator

Cause

Brand new refrigerators may smell of burnt rubber.

Rubber is attached to the compressor to prevent it making too much noise

and smell of rubber can occur due to heat generated by the compressor.

In particular, smell can get strong when the refrigerator is used for the first time

as the compressor initially runs for a long period of time.

Troubleshooting

Smell will eventually dissipate within 1 to 2 months of use.
