Backlight failed and will cost me almost as much to replace the part than buying a new (no name/generic brand) tv. i would not recommend this model TV

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TV WILL FAIL NOV 2017. Purchased this 50LN5400 TV in 2014, and LED backlight failed. These TVs push the light emitting diode (LED) backlight too hard. After some time, the LEDs fail and compromise the TV. Some of them fail as short circuits that appear as slight dimming but generally the TV still displays a picture. When an LED fails as an open circuit, it is like a string of Christmas lights - the whole sting goes out, and so does your picture. LG obviously thought this garbage design wouldn't fail because they didn't take 5 seconds to design it with any consideration for repair. There are no user serviceable parts. on my TV, I needed to replace 5 failed LEDs. If these would have been installed as "socketed" LEDs, the repair could be completed at home in less than an hour. Instead, labourious dismantling of the TV is necessary, and intricate soldering is necessary. Complete garbage. When the TV worked, it was fine. I really appreciated the single center-mounted base. However it was cheap flimsy plastic and warped within a month so the TV was not as stable as expected. It was lightweight so it was easy to lift and move for one person. Sadly, 2 HDMI ports in this modern world is not enough. And whoever thought combining the composite and component inputs into one set of input jacks should be shot. Misleading advertising says you get one of each - which is true - but you can only have one or the other connected. You can't have a composite device and a component device connected at the same time. You must choose which one you want because you can only connect one at a time. 120Hz? laughable. This appears to be marketing gimmick. Blur on this TV was no better than my 7 year old LCD TV (making movies and shows look fake with soap opera effect), and both were a distant 2nd to my 10 year old plasma tv for vibrant color and fast motion. I'm sorry - I cannot recommend this TV or any LG LED TV based on poor reliability. LG LED TVs WILL ALL FAIL. 1 year warranty IS NOT ENOUGH. Even 3 years is not enough for this TV. If yours is still working, use ECO mode to prevent burning out the backlight. (vivid or standard or dynamic or whatever will kill your TV) Best of Luck

Screen is black but sound still there. Very disappointed, you would think they would last longer than that. They don't make them like they use to... Sound is still crystal clear but ZERO picture what so ever. This is ridiculous n i will NOT recomend ANY LG products from this point on [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
