What People Are Saying

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by All show and no go 3D Blu-ray? PVR? All in one box? And at less than £500, at a price you might pay for just one! Too good to be to true? Absolutely. The blu-ray is fine but no more adequate than my PS3 on picture quality but the 3D is badly resolved and the PVR is a true joke. I wish I'd saved my money and bought a proper PVR, or a proper 3D blu-ray player. As it stands I've wasted £500 so will have to wait a little longer... 01 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good product but some features need work After using it for a while I am happy with the HR600 but, due to certain functionality quirks, I couldn't recommend it to anyone else. First, the good: basically it does everything it says it will. Setting up recordings is simple and straightforward. The EPG is simple to navigate through and contains good information. DVDs play well, external HDDs or flash drives are simple plug and play operation and the built in iPlayer works as well as your internet connection will allow. For the price it I have found it to be good value for what it does. However, there are definite frustrations to using this PVR. For example, if you set series record the final episode in the series will still be listed in Timer Rec. even if this is in the past because the series has ended. This then causes TimeShift to stop working until you delete the out of date series, which can be extremely irritating if the phone is ringing at a crucial point and you suddenly finds that you can't pause live TV. Also frustrating is the fact that if you stop playback of a recording and perform any other function (start playback of something else, switch to live TV, turn off the unit) playback starts from the beginning when you go back to the same recording. I could live with this (even though a far older and simpler PVR I had before would resume playback from the same spot that you left it at in all recordings) if it wasn't for the fact that this feature works perfectly with pausing DVDs, even if you turn the machine off! My last major complaint is that the HR600 can sometimes be slow to respond, freeze up for a while or repeatedly pop up messages telling you that recordings are due to start while you're watching another program. These can all cause recordings to start late and I've missed the first few minutes of a program a few times due to this. For me none of the things I've mentioned are deal-breakers and now that I am used to it's foibles the HR600 works perfectly well enough not to bother returning it. I'm also comforted by the fact that it receives updates via the web so the unit will surely improve over time as bugs are fixed and new features added. However, if you expect flawless operation I suggest you look elsewhere. 14 December 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Would be great if everything worked Whilst I have been very pleased with the quality of the recordings there have been too many occasions when the unit has failed to record as programmed. I am still trying to resolve this. Also, the Red Button service doesn't work but I can get round this by using the TV direct instead of through the HR600. There are a couple of irritating design features. The procedure for deleting recordings is a bit long winded and Timeshift won't work if the unit is recording or if it is set to record an upcoming programme or series using Timer Recording. However, I suppose that all PVR's have their quirks. 14 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use, with great features for price I purchased this PVR+Blu-ray because I wanted a device which offered all the different media functions on one box. The HR600 is easy to use, offers BBC iplayer support which works really well (even with HD playback), can record two programs at once while watching a recording or movie (Blu-ray or digital file) Supports DivX, MKV, AVI flawlessly, but won't play VOBs so DVD rips must be images. The off-air recording process is easy and despite a relatively small HDD it is easy to copy from the internal HDD to an external USB drive as required. I hope LG keep making these or the HR650 as it is a really nice product and compared to some of the other PVR+Blu-ray out there it knocks them dead. 06 March 2012
