Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is rubbish I bought this unit for my husbands 70th birthday April last year it has caused us to have more rows than enough like others have said it comes on randomly in the middle of the night ,when starting to record it pops up to tell you and changes to that channel. It has no provision to start early and finish later so we are always missing the ends of program's

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This products great features is only that it is cheap I would not suggest anyone bought this unit at all. We have purchased this unit through Radio Rentals here in country Sth Aust. We have it turning itself on during the night with the volume raised quite loud, then at the same time it can and will turn off at random, even whilst you are watching your program either recorded or freetoair tv. Some times it wont let me record Channel Nine. Takes a long time to decide whether it will do what I want it to do ie bring up guide or going to recordings etc. The Fast forward control is slower than what I am used to. Your not able to watch another channel at times if you are recording, so in other words if you were to ask me if I would recommend you to buy one of these units, seriously I would say NO WAY! Radio Rentals are going to replace it but only once they check it out first and IF they agree there is a problem, then they will think about replacing it for me...!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not reccomend Have had the unit since February and have the same frustrations as Ed of Vic. Got the unit to replace PVR that died. The DVD player failed and was repaired under warranty. Also the unit is supposed to be able to record to an external USB connected HDD. I have been unsuccessful in finding out how to do this. I can read stuff on the ext HDD but cannot record to it. This was one of the claims on packaging and specifications that decided me to buy. Get another unlikely

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Probably best to NOT buy this unit I had a previous LG set top box HDD recorder (which would have probably been more than 5 years old). Given how happy I was with that past unit, I thought I would upgrade and buy a new one (after the old one had a significant crash and HDD error with a power out). What a BIG mistake. Don't buy this unit. The only positive thing was the price (which was on special from Myer). I' thought I just needed to give some time to get used to the new unit, but I must admit, that after 3 weeks that it is terrible and is about to get returned to the shop as not being fit for purpose. The major faults I have with it: - the unit takes a long time to respond and actually do things when compared to the old one - the fast forward function (even at its fastest speed) is terribly slow - You can't start watching something after it has started recording, but hasn't finished yet (as it hasn't written it to the HDD yet). This is so silly. - When something has been set to record, it pops up a window to tell you, and asks you to confirm it. It then switches across to that channel when it starts. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you set something to record and want to watch something else, just record it, don't switch across to it! - The unit randomly turns itself off from time to time. There are other things that annoy me, but the above are the most annoying. Unfortunately I really can't find anything positive to say. Hopefully other manufacturer units aren't as bad as this one. I just can't understand why this unit is such a backwards step.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average device in a generally bad category I am using the HR929T in conjunction with my LG 47LM6200 smart TV. I decided on the LG recorder because of the Simplink controls and I'm glad I did. Being able to use the TV remote for basic recorder controls and vise-versa is great. The smart functionality on the recorder is a bit of a let down. Navigation is a big sluggish at times. Having said that, every other HDD recorder I have seen from other manufacturers suffer the same problems so I can't really use that as a reason to not recommend LG. In general use the HR929T seems to lack some of the fit and finish of the 47LM6200 TV. Menus seem to be less thought out, show details aren't displayed when changing channels. When I am keying in a channel with the remote there is no search, where as on the TV pressing 3 will show all all the SBS channels which is a very nice touch. Recording quality is great and list of recorded shows is simple to read with multiple views. The only feature missing here is that stopping a recording doesn't always save the playback position and going back I have to start from the beginning and fast-forward to the position I was last at. In terms of recording, there is no way of padding the start and finish times in case the EPG is slightly off. Manually changing these can be a pain and can cause the recording to be incorrectly labeled as the previous show. Also if I set something to record and I am watching something else on another of the TV's inputs the recoded will ask me to confirm just before recording by switching to the recorders input. This can be very frustrating when I am playing on the Xbox. I mean I have already set the show to record, why do I need to confirm right before it starts, that's why I am recording it. For all these shortcomings, the HR929T is still one of the better HDD recorders available today.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reasonable but not superb Has this unit for 3 days now. interim review for other potential buyers. First my previous PVR was the xxxx which died hence the replacement. The GOOD. Relatively easy setup for tuner. Contrast and brightness output levels are great with below black level and above white level (for those into TV settings/adjustments and products) being output which results in a brilliant picture when using standard mode. Far beats what the xxx could do. No matter how i tried the cont, bright, color never looked the best feeding the old PVR into a my TV. Fishing never looked so brilliant as it does now on TV. Has user mode for refining these settings but took a while to find. Price was good for 1T unit White display LED panel not blue so night viewing of TV is not a distraction like the P1 was. Smart TV internet shows where the problem is but not how to fix it. But at least it was some help in getting internet access albeit temporarily. Free applications that can be downloaded with free registration to LG if done from the 929T. System updates are done online (i had to remove my router and plug straight into the cable modem to get that to work though). did the update as soon as i figured out how to get internet access. Not sure how updates are done if you dont have internet access or knowhow. Recorded programs preview layout is pretty good providing an image of the program, even if that image has nothing to do with what you intended on recording, ie if you recorded CSI but football was still on at the start of the recording you get a picture of the football segment. You also get 3 layout options to view your recordings, which is pretty good actually. Does warn you if you attempt to record more than 2 programs in overlapping timeslots. Can edit/enter a new name for a recorded program BUT does not display the original name for you to add to it eg on the old PVR if ABCD was the name of the program.. go to rename and just add at the end .. wife... but now i have to enter in a blank box .. ABCD.. WIFE. The Bad The TV GUIDE system is pretty basic layout. The old PVR i had was brilliant in its layout which meant i never had to buy a tv guide. Looks like i am back to buying a TV guide again. if you never had a PVR before, or you only had models with the basic layout this wont really bother you as much as it does me. The old PVR had FF, FR and JUMP forward, back etc. The LG only has FF,FR which is going to be a pain jumping commercials, its like going back to the VCR days.. Argghhhhhh.. No manual BOOKMARKS option whilst watching recorded programs.. Really,, trust me !!! Remembers last played location IF and ONLY IF, you don't do one of two things, 1. exit the record list and say go to normal TV or 2. go to another recorded program then you come back to your previous one expecting it to go back to where you left off, NOPE starts right at the start again. Work around is to use the INFO button, go to timeset and manually set the record counter time forward to where you think you were up too.... hope this gets fixed soon. NO post padding or pre-padding option on recording programs. I would guess most ppl know by now that TV programs seldom run on time. The old PVR allowed me the menu option of adding pre and post padding times. So i had always allowed 5 min earlier start and an extra 10min at the end . If I needed more time due to special concerns over late night programs ,then i jumped into the recording list and manually added more time. When in guide mode and you set an intended recording, that recorded program will get the title of what you have set, BUT, if you go into recording LIST and extend the time, the channel number appears to replace the program name. I'm fairly certain this is still the same after the update this afternoon. If you happen to only be using the GUIDE function and you select a 3rd program to record that is in the same timeslot that you have already set recording programs for, the 929T will show the other 2 programs but i can find an option to say, hey this one is now more important than one of the other two please replace. i have to manually go into timer list and delete one of the other programs then come back to GUIDE to find the program i did want more urgently.. So if you do more than just record the odd program this is my current update request for LG. 1. Manual bookmark feature whilst watching prerecorded programs 2. Remember last played position (automatically) of ANY pre- recorded program. 3. provide Pre and Post padding as a fixed menu option . 4. Keep the original program name when extending the time in rec list mode. STOP PRESS...A quick test on new update. If you go to check what recording you set up and scroll across to the OK button (instead of using the BACK button) program title changes to the station number. 5. Tried increasing the time on a preprogrammed timer. Instead of adding to the current selection it creates a new recording timer, now i have two recording timers shown for the same time slot only one has the extra 10 min i put on it.. This is so basic that i presume there is something i have missed here. I'm sure LG will explain. 6. Would like a check HDD function that can be manually invoked, at some time the hard drive will run into fragmentation problems. Perhaps this is handled behind the scene .. not sure. 7. Please LG, provide jump option that i can set, you have the up/down/left/right arrows doing nothing . Please provide jump option that is user time set . Footnote. I have no association with any company mentioned or not, in my comments. Just a humble user of electronics. Whilst i have done my best to get this right, any error is due to lack of time these days. Please feel free to advise of any errors or updates, or if you know how to get the internet via router working without using DMZ.
