What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Picture and Feature set at a reasonable price Straight up I will say I am in the IT industry, so getting this TV I played with a lot of the "Smart" features. The features included are good, easy to use and the menus make sense, even from a non-technical perspective. The "Smart" section is well layed out. Picture quality is really good for the price point and the Passive 3D, in my opinion, is better than most active 3D systems. 3D without the flicker and without the loss of brightness is great. The 200MHz "TruMotion" increases the refresh rate and response time of the LCD is really good even in fast moving action sports. The only disappointment on picture for me was very slight backlight bleeding around the edges when viewed in a dark room. 99% of the time it is not noticeable, but sometimes it can be noticed and it takes a lot of playing with brightness and contrast to try and compensate in a dark room. That said, no LCD gives true blacks in a dark room anyway. Plasma and OLED displays would be the way to go if that bothers you too much. The "Premium" fetures are a little bit disappointing as it seems to focus very much on Bigpond supplied content, which although good quality, is not fantastic and is limited. The Apps are generally well written, but there is not a huge number of them that are useful on a TV. I have a PLEX media server running at home so I was able to test the MediaLink feature. This is LG's implementation of a PLEX client. I can say that this works well. The Metadata information is gathered by plex, poster images are displayed well and the movie information is accurate. IT will play MOST formats that are standardised, but the PLEX server will transcode the rest for LG so I have had no issues. Running outside of PLEX is slightly different. Most standard Formats will play fine, but not all formats work. MKV Containers are readable, but some audio formats will not play. Not a big deal if you use a PLEX server, but if you want to play via DLNA it can be. Converting all your movies etc to a MP4 format will solve the issue though. For people complaining of the format issues, change your home videos to MP4 format and you'll be sweet. If the issue is your less than legal downloads, then buy the movies / tv series on Blueray or DVD and rip them yourself in a standard format :-). (or take the time to convert them) Over all this "Smart" TV has not disappointed me. The picture quality and 3D quality are superb for a domestic grade TV. The MediaLink (PLEX) application works beautifully smoothly with no lag or crashing (provided you have GBE network connection or a good WiFi signal if you use a WiFi adaptor). The "Premium" feature subset was disappointing mainly because it relied heavily on Bigpond and I never got the "Weather Effect" feature to work, despite setting it correctly. Other than that the apps in general work well and the Internet Browser can cope with most things. Some web based media did not play as the browser has no silverlight and limited flash support, but if you treat it like a Mobile browser rather than a Computer browser then you won't be disappointed with it. The hardest part is using the on-screen keyboard. I'd recommend this product based on pricepoint and picture quality. There are a lot more expensive Televisions on the market with a lot less features and LG have a lot of customisation available in the menus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Internet Browser Remember this. It has an Internet Browser. My mate loves this TV specifically because of this. INTERNET BROWSER ON THE TV. Which other TV has an internet browser and google search to go where you want? No other tv I know of at this price does it. The picture is crisp and bright and good skin tones.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expectedmore It's good until the shiny edges rub off. What I mean is that it's fun to use and everything, but after a while you just stop using it and some of it's features just become annoying. It's a good tv, dont get me wrong, but for what I paid for it, I expected a lot more. 2D to 3D doesnt really work. But it does have a very big screen, true 3D films are amazing, but do not put this tv in a room where there is light coming thru a window, becuase the screen on this tv reflects everything, it make swatching this tv in the day time almost impossible :\

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed - feels like they're selling us an 'incomplete' TV First looks are awesome. Big in size and easy on the eye. But that's where it stops. I decided to test this TV very well before I post this review. For the price you pay, I honestly expected more. Smart TV isn't exactly that smart. As a technical specialist, I absolutely love gadgets, and this TV doesn't put it all quite together. It doesn't play .mkv files, it has trouble playing high definition files from my external HDD - it sometimes doesn't play the files at all, other HD files it plays for about 10 seconds, other HD files it plays the video beautifully, but it doesn't play any sound. I'm very disappointed in this. BUT I thought hey at least I'll be able to watch my HD movies from my HDD with a multimedia app that I download for the TV... no this does not exist either. This is a premium TV at a premium price. It only has 2 USB ports. Which you might think is ok, but it quickly becomes apparent that 2 is waaaay not enough. 1 gets quickly used up by the magic motion remote control, and after you add your external HDD (that has to be formatted so can only be used for this purpose) so that you can use the recording option, you have no more USB ports left for when you want to watch movies that are on a your external HDD that contains all your movies, let alone when friends bring their memory sticks and want to listen to music, etc... so you constantly finding yourself swapping out USB devices. Also, there's a really annoying 'feature' that when you pause live TV, or even any movie you're watching using the TV's built in software, then it will after a couple of minutes just start playing it again. No I did not forget that I'm watching a movie and paused it! I PAUSED IT FOR A REASON! Hahaha, seriously... The creators should honestly go back to the drawing board with this TV and really think about the features they include and do not include. Just for anyone who's curious - I paid under $2000 on Jan 2012 after shopping around quite a bit and making sellers beat each other's prices. Might seem like a lot of money for this TV if you're reading this from the future, but believe me that this is the best price I could find and jumped through quite a few hoops. To conclude: Buy this TV only if you get it for a VERY good price. BUT I don't think I'll buy an LG TV in the future. ;) *LG App store is pretty bad with very few apps and nothing really relevant **Sorry for my non-perfect english, it's not my first language ***i hope this review really helps someone - lets see if LG posts this honest post on their website

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 55LW6500 The Cinema 3D is great. However, I watch mostly free to air TV and was most unimpressed with this side of it. Watching the newsreaders face the detail keeps coming and going, one second you see all the lines and pock-marks on the face and next second as his head moves slightly the skin looks smooth as a babys - very obvious and distracting. Make sure you watch free to air TV in the store before you purchase. I also noticed considerable audio visual synch on free to air TV. I switched to HDMI input feeding the same program from a TV tuner on my PC and there was no synch problem - obviously the TV tuner in the TV is not up to the job. The Picture Settings has an option to turn "Energy Saving Mode" on. With this turned on the picture changes brightness so often it is unwatchable and is mostly too dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good product The TV works well, easy to use interface, easy updates ( when using the wireless setup ) 3D is just fantastic quality, would benafit from auto 3D detection on the video files that are downloaded. Just all the little extra's make it a great TV for any home user. Easy to mount on the wall as it isnt heavy to lift (Requires atleast 2 people) Plug locations are very good, but could do with atleast 1-2 more USB ports.
