Today, tweens and teens are sending 20,209 texts every second, which is more than 1.2 million texts every minute! Such seismic texting activity, however, presents the potential for misguided or harmful use.
For example, our own research has shown that 22% of teens have received a naked picture, 12% of teens have sent or forwarded a naked picture, and 11% of teens have taken a naked picture on their mobile phones. These stats represent millions of kids, and the trend to engage in risky mobile phone behavior is growing.
With this in mind, the LG Text Ed program brings together an advisory council of leading child behavior and health experts who examine important issues related to tweens, teens, and mobile phone use. Parents can gain valuable information from our Advisory Council as well as monthly articles, tips, videos, and other helpful resources on this web site. As a result, families can communicate more effectively about potentially harmful behavior such as sexting, sending or receiving threatening text messages, and many more relevant topics.
