Dr. Charles Sophy has dedicated his life to the physical and mental well-being of children and families nationwide. As a psychiatrist specializing in Adult, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Family Practice, Dr. Sophy currently serves as the Medical Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the nation's largest Child Welfare System. As Medical Director, Dr. Sophy is responsible for directing the physical and mental health, as well as assisting in ensuring the safety, of over 40,000 foster care children. In addition to his county position, Dr. Sophy also maintains a private practice in Los Angeles and is a clinical instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles Neuro-Psychiatric Institute.
Dr. Sophy has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2008, he was presented the Discovery Award from the Zimmer Children's Museum in Los Angeles. He was also the recipient of the Children's Voices Award from the Village Family Services for his tireless commitment to the health and welfare of the children and families in Los Angeles County.
Dr. Sophy appears regularly on the Celebrity Rehab and Sober House with Dr. Drew and on CNN's Larry King Live. He also contributes a bi-monthly blog on Psychology Today, and can be found on social media outlets such as Facebook and @DrSophy on Twitter.
