What to do if your LG refrigerator light is not working

Troubleshooting

If Your LG Refrigerator Light Isn't Working

If the light does not turn on when you open the refrigerator door, or if the refrigerator appears to have no light, try the following checks before contacting LG Customer Support.

Check if your refrigerator has a light

Small refrigerators often have limited freezer space. Because food can block the light, some models are designed without a freezer light to maximize storage space.

  • Models under 11 cu. ft. (300 liters): Light in the refrigerator compartment only.
  • Models 14 cu. ft. (400 liters) or more: Lights in both the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

Check the opening in the ceiling

If you see an empty opening in the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment, it might look like a light bulb is missing.
However, this is an air vent that circulates cold air, not a light socket.
Your refrigerator is not missing any parts. Keep food and other items away from the vent.

Check and Replace the Light Bulb

If your refrigerator normally has a light but it no longer turns on, the light bulb may have reached the end of its life.
A standard light bulb is a consumable part that you can replace yourself.

  1. 1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. 2. Remove the light cover.
  3. 3. Remove the existing light bulb and replace it with a new bulb of the correct wattage.
Refer to the user manual on the LG website for the required bulb specifications.

Caution

  • Unplug the refrigerator before replacing the light bulb.
  • LED lights are difficult to replace yourself. If your refrigerator has an LED light and you suspect that it is faulty, contact LG Customer Support for further assistance.

Check the Refrigerator’s Power Supply

If the light does not turn on and the refrigerator and freezer are not cooling, the refrigerator may not be receiving power.

  1. 1. Unplug the refrigerator. Plug a hair dryer or another small appliance into the same wall outlet to check if the outlet is working.
  2. 2. If the appliance does not work, check if the household circuit breaker has tripped.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What should I do if the light still does not work after replacing the bulb?
A. If the light does not turn on after you replace the bulb, there may be a problem with the internal wiring or the door switch (the sensor that turns on the light when the door opens).
Contact LG Customer Support for further assistance.
