Cybershack's first impressions of the LG G3: A Screen to Behold

Charlie and I had the opportunity to get hands on with the newly announced LG G3 today, and I need to get this off my chest: the screen is unreal. All technical specs aside, just looking at it is impressive; it truly is a thing of beauty. Watching a video on the G3 feels like a cinematic experience, but on a phone. I'm still struggling to get my head around that.Based on our hands on, we definitely think the LG G3 will be a more-than-worthy contender in the high-end smartphone market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from After 2 Weeks Use Cons: - laggy, slow to switch apps, slow to load apps, slow all-round - 2gb ram base, so there is hardly any free ram to load new apps - 335mb free Ram (after running a memory cleaner and removing Widgets) - switch to large app and it will restart the app, even if you just go to home page and back (eg. in middle of game, go to home screen, switch back, and the game restarts, wt!?) - keyboard sucks - auto correct is a nightmare (I have tried many settings and configurations, it is just stupid and will not learn words, eg. after typing "Lumia" a few times, it still changes it to Linus }:-/ !) - buttons on the back of phone. Who thought of this insane idea, who tested it, how did it get past the prototype? It's madness. Screenshot is very hard to do. - Bundled apps, should be able to uninstall the memory hogging apps. Cannot uninstall everything. - Extra apps installed and don't know what they do; eg. Photos & Gallery, where can I learn about those, how do I know which one to make default? - Configuration; finding the config is not easy, or there is no way to change it. Eg. Autocorrect, LG installed stuff (feels more like an Android OS issue) - Cannot upgrade to new Android version - I hear most phones do this (I don't want to waste time Rooting it) - On top of all this; Android OS and Google Play store issues. There are many to deal with. Pros: Just look at their marketing, tips, etc. They will happily show you the pros to LG G3 phone. Please note: before this I was using a 4 year old iPhone 5. That old phone is faster and does not have the issues above.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was great I got my G3 12 months ago roughly, and it was simply awesome, fast, reliable, very few dropouts. But since the update to OS Android 5, it has slowed down immensely and nothing can be done about it. If they stop doing OS upgrades the phones will be perfect as manufactured originally.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from poor battery, great phone The lg g3 is a great all round phone, moderately fast and good looking, but with the lollipop update I burn through 2 fully charged batteries in one day, while charging speed is ok. I still dislike the button placement though, despite months of use, things like sports armband, you simply cant access the buttons and the phone makes weird creaking sounds, and a strange buzzing in the right headphone, even with various types of headphones. Overall phone has lots of room for improvment, but considering its price and features, pretty good 2014 flagship device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ABSOLUTLY AWESOME Having owned 7 of the top phones from HTC, Motorola and Apple over the past 2 years i have to say this is leaps and bounds above them. The only fault i can say about this phone is it doesnt have MIRRORLINK. PS : im a very heavy user and still only need to charge it when i go to bed it still has almost 50% batt remaing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant - no regrets Really pleased with my LG G3. I ditched my iPhone in favour of the G3 about a month ago and I have absolutely no regrets. There is so much i can do with this phone that I couldn't do with the iPhone. Love the camera, love the screen. The phone is really zippy, no noticeable lag. I was a little concerned about the effect the large screen would have on battery life but there was no need. I usually get 2 days out of a charge, after the initial period of constantly playing with the phone where I was charging each night. There are so many features I love about this phone and I am still discovering more. I love the swipe keyboard, it is so good. The voice recognition kicks Siri's butt. It is so much more customisable than iOS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This phone is amazing, I came from a note 2 and I am very impressed. I used to hate the launchers that came with phones and always ended up installing CM. No longer is this the case, the LG launcher adds value to the experience. The only thing that is a negative is the bloatware that comes with the phone, it created a little lag and ate the battery. A quick root fixed this problem. Now its super snappy and no kidding my batter lasts at least 24 hours. You just need to remove some redundant apps like the security app, kill switch and LG health.
