How to Turn Your TV and HDMI Devices On and Off Together

Troubleshooting

To turn your TV and an HDMI-connected device, such as a set-top box or soundbar, on or off together, set Simplink (HDMI-CEC) or Auto Power Sync to On in your TV settings.

Why Do your TV and HDMI Device Turn On Separately?

  • When you enable CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), devices connected through HDMI can exchange power control signals and turn on or off together.
  • Your TV and external device operate independently by default, so they do not share power control signals unless HDMI-CEC is enabled.

How to Enable Simplink (HDMI-CEC) or Auto Power Sync

Step 1. Turn On Simplink (HDMI-CEC) or Auto Power Sync

How to Check Your TV’s webOS Version

On your TV remote, press the [Settings] button, shown as a gear icon, or the [Mute] button three times in a row.

  • 2026 and later TVs (webOS 26 and later): Press the Settings button on your remote, then select All Settings, System, Devices, HDMI Settings, and Simplink (HDMI-CEC). Set it to On.
  • 2022 and later TVs (webOS 22 and later): Press the Settings button on your remote, then select All Settings, General, Devices, HDMI Settings, and Simplink (HDMI-CEC). Set it to On.
  • 2021 TVs (webOS 6.0): Press the Settings button on your remote, then select All Settings, General, Devices, HDMI Settings, and Simplink (HDMI-CEC). Set it to On.
  • 2019 and later TVs (webOS 4.5 and later): Press the Settings button on your remote, then select All Settings, Connection, and HDMI Device Settings. Set both Auto Power Sync and Simplink (HDMI-CEC) to On.
  • 2018 and earlier TVs (webOS 4.0 and earlier): Press the Settings button on your remote, then select All Settings and General. Set both Simplink (HDMI-CEC) and Auto Power Sync to On.
  • On webOS 6.0 and later, Auto Power Sync does not appear as a separate setting. TurningF on Simplink (HDMI-CEC) automatically enables linked power control.
