Why your LG refrigerator display(control panel) is flickering and how to fix it

If the display on your LG refrigerator flickers or does not work properly, it is usually caused by a temporary power issue or a problem with the display component.
Unplug the power cord, wait about 5 minutes, and then plug it back in to reset the system.

Why is the refrigerator display flickering?

On side-by-side refrigerators and standard refrigerators, the display may flicker for two main reasons.

  • External factors: Temporary system errors caused by power fluctuations, such as lightning, a power outage, or a loose outlet connection. The display may also malfunction due to high humidity or foreign substances.
  • Hardware issues: A physical defect or malfunction in the display’s circuit board or internal wiring.

Caution

  • When unplugging the power cord or resetting the circuit breaker, ensure your hands are completely dry.
  • If the display is completely unresponsive and you cannot adjust the refrigerator or freezer temperature, contact LG Customer Support immediately to schedule service.

How do I fix a flickering refrigerator display?

Step 1. Unplug and reconnect the power cord

First, reset the refrigerator to clear any temporary system errors. Unplug the power cord from the outlet, wait about 5 minutes, and then plug it back in.

Step 2. Use the circuit breaker if you cannot access the power cord

If you have a built-in refrigerator or the power cord is hard to reach, use the circuit breaker instead. Turn off the circuit breaker connected to the refrigerator, wait about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.

Step 3. Schedule service

If the display continues to flicker or malfunction after completing Steps 1 and 2, it may be a hardware issue. Contact LG Customer Support to schedule service.

A. No. As long as the doors remain closed, the refrigerator will keep enough cold air for 5 to 10 minutes, so your food will not be affected. You can safely reset the power.

A. If your refrigerator has a push-button control panel, moisture or foreign substances around the buttons may cause it to flicker.
After unplugging the power cord, check the button area and gently wipe away any visible moisture or debris with a dry cloth. However, this is only a temporary measure.
