The refrigerator keeps beeping even when the door is closed. What should I do?

Why does the refrigerator beep?

If the refrigerator door is slightly open, cold air escapes and the internal temperature rises.
To compensate, the refrigerator works harder to lower the temperature again, which can lead to component wear or increased energy consumption.
To prevent this, the refrigerator beeps when the door is left open for a certain period of time.

Check food placement and shelves

• Overloaded refrigerator

  If the refrigerator is overfilled or heavy bottles are placed in the door bins, the added weight can cause the door to sag and not seal properly. Rearrange the items to reduce the weight.

  
• Improperly installed shelves or drawers

  If you recently cleaned the refrigerator, make sure all shelves and drawers are pushed all the way in.

  

Check for items caught in the door

• Items such as cloth covers on top of the refrigerator or plastic bags in the freezer door bins can get caught and prevent the door from closing all the way.
  Remove any obstructions around the door.

Clean and inspect the door seal

• Clean the door seal

  If sticky food residue builds up on the door seal, it may not seal properly.
  Soften any residue with a warm, damp towel, then clean it gently using a toothbrush or sponge and mild soap.

  
• Push the door seal back into place

  If part of the door seal is loose or sagging, press it firmly back into the groove around the door.

  

Additional checks for Modern Edge refrigerators (top refrigerator and bottom freezer)

• On Modern Edge models with a bottom freezer, large items may prevent the freezer drawer from closing all the way.
  Check both the upper refrigerator door and the lower freezer drawer, and gently push them to make sure they are closed all the way.
