How do I factory reset my LG TV if it keeps freezing or showing errors?

Troubleshooting

If you experience remote control issues or app errors on your LG TV, the [Reset to Initial Settings (Factory Reset)] feature can help resolve the problem.
Please note that performing a full reset will remove all installed apps and personal settings.

Caution

  • If the TV lock feature is enabled, you will need to enter your password to reset the TV. (You can find the default password in the owner's manual on the LG website. If you forget your password after changing it, please contact LG Customer Support for assistance.)
  • Do not unplug the power cord or turn off the TV during the reset.

When should I reset my TV?

1. Magic Remote issues

The pointer does not appear on the screen, or the TV does not respond when buttons are pressed.

2. Software issues

The TV screen freezes unexpectedly, or menu navigation becomes noticeably slow due to a system error.

3. App issues

Apps such as Netflix or YouTube do not open properly or close unexpectedly during use.

How do I reset my LG TV to factory settings?

How to check your TV's webOS version

On your TV remote, press the [Settings] (gear icon) or [Mute] button three times in a row.

Step 1. How to reset your TV

2021 or newer TVs [webOS 6.0 or later]: Press the [Settings] button on the remote, [All Settings], [General], [System], [Reset to Initial Settings]

2020 TVs [webOS 5.0]: Press the [Settings] button on the remote, [All Settings], [Support], [Reset to Initial Settings]

2019 or older TVs [webOS 4.5 or earlier]: Press the [Settings] button on the remote, [All Settings], [General], [Reset to Initial Settings]

Step 2. Choose the reset option that fits your needs

[Reset All]: Resets all settings to their default values.

[Reset all except network settings]: Resets all settings to their default values, except for your network settings.

Q. Do I need to sign in to Netflix or YouTube again after resetting the TV?
A. If you select [Reset All], all account information saved on the TV will be removed. After the reset is complete, you will need to reinstall the apps and sign in again using your account ID and password.
Q. I forgot my wi-fi password. Can I reset the TV without losing my Wi-Fi connection?
A. On some models released in 2024 or later, you can select [Reset all except network settings] from the reset menu to reset the system to resolve errors while keeping the current Wi Fi connection.
