[LG Sound Bar] No Sound When Connected to TV

Troubleshooting

If there’s no sound coming from your sound bar even though it’s connected to your TV, first check that your sound bar, TV, and set-top box are not muted and that the volume is turned up.
If the volume settings are correct, check the cables (HDMI or optical) and make sure your TV’s audio output is set correctly.

Why Is There No Sound from the Sound Bar?

  • Your sound bar, TV, or connected set-top box may be muted or set to a very low volume.
  • The HDMI or optical cable connecting the TV, sound bar, or set top box may be loose or disconnected.
  • When using an HDMI cable, make sure it's plugged into an HDMI (eARC/ARC) port instead of a standard HDMI port.
  • Your TV’s audio output may be set to the internal speakers or another device instead of your sound bar.
  • If you are using a WOW Dongle for a wireless connection, there may be an issue with the dongle’s power or connection port.

How to Fix Sound Bar Audio Issues

Check the Volume and Mute Settings on Each Device

  • Use your sound bar remote or the buttons on the sound bar to turn up the volume.
  • Use your TV and set-top box remotes to make sure the volume is turned up and not muted on each device.

Check the Cable Connections Between Devices

  • Make sure the cables connecting your TV, set-top box, and sound bar are plugged in correctly.
  • Check that the HDMI or optical cable is fully inserted into both devices. If it is loose or unplugged, reconnect it firmly.

Set Your TV's Speaker Output for a Wired Connection

  1. 1.Open your TV's settings menu to change the audio output.
  2. 2.On an LG TV, press the [Settings (gear icon)] button on your remote and select [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wired Speaker].
  3. 3.When using an HDMI cable, connect it to the port labeled HDMI (eARC/ARC).
  4. 4.When using an optical cable, connect it to the OPTICAL port.
  5. 5.Select your preferred connection method.

* Note: The menu path for speaker output settings may vary depending on your TV's manufacturer and model. Refer to your product’s user manual if needed.

Set Your TV's Speaker Output for a Wireless Connection

  2. 2.To connect via Bluetooth on an LG TV, press the [Settings (gear icon)] button on your remote and select [All Settings] → [Sound] → [Sound Out] → [Use Wireless Speaker] → [Bluetooth Device].
  3. 3.From the list of available devices, select your sound bar.

Test Your Sound Bar with Another Device

  • If your sound bar has no sound when connected to your TV or set-top box, try connecting it to another device—such as a smartphone or tablet—via Bluetooth.
If your sound bar successfully connects to your smartphone and plays sound normally, your sound bar is working properly, and the issue is likely related to your TV's settings or cables.

Check the WOW Dongle Connection (If Applicable)

  • If you are using a WOW Dongle with your TV or projector, make sure the dongle is powered on.
  • The dongle must be connected to your TV’s HDMI ARC port, and your TV’s audio output should be set to [HDMI/ARC].
  • If the issue persists, try resetting the dongle by pressing the RESET button.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What is the difference between HDMI ARC and a standard HDMI port?
A. HDMI ARC allows your TV to send audio to an external device. Standard HDMI ports are primarily for video input, so sound may not play through your sound bar.
Q. What is HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK)?
A. HDMI-CEC allows you to control HDMI-connected devices using a single TV remote.
Check your product's user manual to see if this feature is supported.
On an LG TV, press the [Settings] button on your remote and select [All Settings] → [General] → [External Devices] → [HDMI Settings], then set SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) to [On].
* Note: The menu path may vary depending on your TV model.
Q. I followed the steps above, but the issue is still not resolved.
A. There may be an issue with your device. Contact LG Customer Support for further assistance.
