How to Fix No Sound or Monitor Not Appearing in Windows 11 Sound Settings

Troubleshooting

If you aren't hearing any sound from your LG monitor, first check if your model has built-in speakers.
If your monitor doesn't appear as a sound output device in Windows 11, you may need to check your HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C connections, as well as your PC's audio and graphics drivers.

Note
  • Not all monitors have built-in speakers, and supported ports vary by model. Check your monitor's product specifications or user manual first.
  • HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C connections (if audio-supported) can transmit both video and sound.
  • Using an adapter or conversion cable, such as an HDMI-to-DVI cable, may display video but will not transmit sound.

Why Is There No Sound From My LG Monitor?

  • Your monitor might not have built-in speakers.
  • The volume on your monitor or Windows is muted or set too low.
  • Windows is using a different sound output device.
  • Your PC does not recognize the HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C audio connection.
  • Your cable is loose, incompatible, or damaged.
  • An audio or graphics driver issue is preventing Windows from detecting your monitor as an audio device.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Can the LG Monitor Display Video Without Playing Sound?
A. Yes. Your monitor can display video even if there is no sound.
This usually happens if Windows is set to a different output device, your PC doesn't recognize the monitor's audio device, your monitor doesn't have built-in speakers, or there is an issue with the driver or cable connection.
Q. Can I Use an HDMI-to-DVI Cable to Play Sound on the LG Monitor?
A. No, we do not recommend using an HDMI-to-DVI cable for audio. DVI connections are designed primarily for video.
To play both video and sound through your monitor, use an HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable that supports audio transmission.
