Do you hear sounds like “clack”, “thud”, “thump”, “hum”, or “gurgle” when using the dryer?
As the drum rotates to evenly distribute warm air, zippers and buttons on garments may hit the drum and cause
clacking noise.
The compressor may produce louder humming noise when spinning at high speed to raise the temperature inside the
dryer.
The noise will gradually decrease as the dryer reaches the target temperature.
During condenser cleaning, when the drain pump moves water to clean the condenser, gurgling sounds may be
heard.
As the water hits against the pump’s blades, you may hear temporary noise. These sounds stop once the cleaning
process is complete.
※ If the noise is unusually loud, causes discomfort, or if you experience any operational issues,
your dryer may require a professional inspection.
Please request a service visit from an LG Electronics
technician.
Causes and Symptoms
- Zippers and buttons on garment are hitting the drum.
- It is operational noise from the compressor.
- It is operational noise from the drain pump.
Try this
Do you hear “clacking” or “thudding” sounds when the drum rotates?
➔ This may be caused by wet clothes and clothing fasteners hitting the drum.
Fasten any zippers and buttons on clothes, then turn clothes inside out before drying.
Check and empty pockets to remove any items like as coins and keys before washing or drying.
If this occurs, please contact LG Electronics Support for assistance.
Does the dryer make a thumping sound as soon as you press the [Start/Pause] button?
➔ This is the sound of the rubber parts of the rollers beneath the drum returning to their original shape.
When the dryer is not in use, the rubber parts of the rollers that support the drum may slightly compress.
When the dryer starts, the rubber expands back to its original shape, which can cause a thumping sound.
Does the dryer hum and make a high-pitched sound when it starts?
➔ These are normal operational sounds of the compressor starting up.
The compressor generates a humming sound as it begins operating.
If the dryer’s surrounding temperature is low, the compressor may spin faster to raise the internal temperature,
resulting in increased noise.
As the temperature inside the dryer approaches the target level, the compressor slows down and the noise
decreases.
In addition, a brief high-pitched sound may also occur when the compressor starts due to a temporary rise in
internal pressure.
If you prefer quieter operation, press the [Energy Saving] button and select [Energy] mode after choosing a cycle.
Do you hear gurgling and buzzing sounds during drying?
➔ These are normal operational sounds of the drain pump moving water.
The gurgling and buzzing sounds, along with the sound of water draining during dryer operation, are caused by the
drain pump.
Moist air generated from wet laundry is condensed into water during the drying process.
The drain pump pushes this water upward to allow the condenser to be automatically cleaned.
Noise can also result from water hitting the pump’s blades and may last between 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
