How to find the MAC address on your laptop

Troubleshooting

To find your laptop’s MAC address, press the [Windows] + [R] keys on your keyboard, type cmd in the Run window, and press [Enter].
When the Command Prompt window opens, type ipconfig /all and press [Enter].
In the displayed information, the value next to Physical Address is your device's MAC address.

What is a MAC address, and when do I need it?

1. A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique identifier assigned to a network device, such as a computer's network adapter or a smartphone's Wi-Fi module.

2. Unlike an IP address, it is tied to the physical hardware and does not change unless the component is replaced.

3. You may need to provide your MAC address when registering your PC on a secure network (like at a company, school, or dorm), or when managing device access on a router.

FAQ

Q. I see multiple physical addresses. Which one should I use?
A. Since laptops support both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) connections, you may see more than one MAC address.
If you plan to use an Ethernet cable, find the physical address under Ethernet adapter. If you plan to use Wi-Fi, find the physical address under Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi.
Q. Can I find my MAC address without opening Command Prompt?
A. Yes. Right-click the Network or Wi-Fi icon at the bottom right of your screen, then click Network and Internet settings. Open the properties for Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then find the Physical address (MAC) at the bottom of the page.
