How to Scan Your LG Laptop for Viruses and Remove Malware

Troubleshooting

If your laptop suddenly slows down or shows frequent errors, malware might be the cause. You can easily find and remove threats by updating Microsoft Defender and running a Quick Scan in Windows Security.

Note

Removing malware may also delete infected files. If critical Windows files are affected, Windows may not start normally after the threats are removed.

Back up your important documents and photos to a USB storage device or an external drive before scanning. Do not back up files you suspect are infected.

Use only one antivirus program. Running multiple real-time antivirus programs at the same time can cause software conflicts and slow down your laptop.

What Are the Signs of a Malware Infection?

Viruses, spyware, ransomware, and other malware can cause the following issues on your laptop:

  • Your laptop runs noticeably slower than usual.
  • Windows fails to start normally, or you frequently see error messages and blue screens.
  • File names or sizes change unexpectedly, or unfamiliar files appear.
  • You see unexpected advertising pop-ups or other suspicious activities.

These symptoms do not always mean that the laptop is infected. However, if you suddenly experience these issues, run a scan in Windows Security immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)

Q. What Should I Do If the Scan Finds No Threats but the Laptop Is Still Slow?
A. A quick scan may not detect all malware. Go to Virus & threat protection, select Scan options, and run a Full scan. If you still suspect an infection, run a Microsoft Defender Offline scan. This restarts your laptop and scans for threats before malware can activate.
Q. How Can I Help Protect My Files From Ransomware?
A. Go to Virus & threat protection, and select Manage ransomware protection. Turn on Controlled folder access to block untrusted apps from changing your documents and photos. Never open email attachments or links from unknown senders.
