Automatic Defrosting with an Outdoor Unit
Symptom
- No warm air but gas fumes from an outdoor unit during heating.
Cause
1. Frost builds up on an heat exchanger in an outdoor unit if outdoor temperature is low and humidity is high.
2. Frost can decrease heating performance. Automatic defrosting will start to remove frost. Heating will pause for 5-7 minutes.
3. For models with wired remote controllers, a water drop-shaped icon will appear at the bottom left corner of the controller display.
Warm air will not come out for 5-7 minutes.
4. With models that use wireless remote controllers, louvers will be nearly closed during defrosting and hot air will not come out.
A defrost icon will be shown on display.
5. Vapor can be generated from the outdoor unit during defrosting. It is a normal sign of thawing.
6. Water can pool under the outdoor unit as frost melts. Make sure water is drained properly.
