What People Are Saying

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Air conditioner works great. Does a great job cooling the room. My house has an open floor plan so it also cools the kitchen area plus more. I use the Energy Saver mode and the compressor shuts off when it reaches the set temperature. I am happy with my purchase. This is a Consumer Reports recommended product. July 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is a great value A very nice unit, easy to operate. Great features and options July 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by overall a good unit I purchased this unit to help the central unit during the summer months here in Georgia where it gets blistering hot. The central works great it just has to stay running just about all the time to keep it as cool as I like it. I was going with a smaller unit either a 8000 or 10000btu but there was an open box 12000 on sale for cheaper than the 10k unit and right close to the price of the 8k. I choose the 12 until the salesman became rude and didn't want to find the accessories that comes with every ac unit. I walk out and emailed the store manager and he called me back right away and asked me politely to come in and he would make it right. Got there and the 12k was gone so he offered me a brand new unit at the price of the open box unit so I g hardly cuttingrabbed it up. Got it home installed it and it works better than any of my other 2. It's very quiet, extremely cold air and set on low maintains the temperature I like with the central seldom running at all. I would certainly buy this product again. The only fault at all is that it's a little larger than comparable units but that's easily overlooked. July 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT value for the price This unit replaced an older, smaller but similar LG unit. The other unit was relocated to another room. This newer model is easy to operate and easy to maintain. I especially like the automatic feature that restarts the air conditioner after a power outage. The filter on this newer model is also MUCH easier to remove and reinstall. Although a higher BTU rating, this newer unit fit in the same size opening as the previous unit, and the electric bill is NOT noticeably higher. The remote control is also a nice feature. Rated 1 out of 5 by The water does not drain from the housing properly While this air conditioner did cool the room well, that is lost in the fact that the water from running the air conditioner did NOT drain from the frame ('holder') that held the unit in the window. It WAS installed correctly, per the instructions that came with it. The unit leaked water all over the side of my house, because the fan blew the excess water that pooled in the center of the air conditioner out of the sides. The water would not drain, even though it was installed with a proper angle and into the carriage/housing that came with it. My husband tried to enlarge the TINY drain holes TWICE and the second time somehow the internal fan blade broke. It is only 2 months old (!!!) and it is no longer usable. The air conditioner will have to be replaced, unless I can find a repair person to fix the blades. I am very disappointed! What a waste of money! July 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible Installation Instructions Just bought the LW1214ER Air Conditioner and tried to install it. Poor detail pictures and instructions. First instruction is insert the frame guide into the bottom of the cabinet. Picture looks like you should use a screw but no screw type given and you cannot tell where it wants you to insert it. Next instruction is fasten the curtains to the unit with 8 type A screws. Problem is it doesn't say or show which way curtains face and the type A screws are not sharp and will not go into the holes provided. I put the unit back into the box and will go buy a unit from another provider tomorrow. June 30, 2014

compatability

I have a LW1210ER with the outer shell mounted securely. That model is discontinued. Can I slide out the face and guts,( I know I can, I did it while I was mounting the shell ) What I mean to ask is can I slide in the guts and face of a LW1214ER if it comes to that? I see thee LW1214ER is 1/8 deeper. I can deal with sealing a 1/8 gap if it doesn't go in all the way.

We appreciate your interest in these air conditioner units. It is recommended to use the casing which accompanies the device being used. Exchanging the outer casing can result in air leaks, additional humidity and other potential problems.

compressor extremely loud

The compressor on my LW1214ER is extremely loud when it's on. It's not a problem with installation -- there's no rattling the grill or cage, and the sound level is what I would expect when only the fan is on. But when the compressor kicks in there's a very loud, deep humming noise with a repetitive whir that sounds like a truck idling. Is there anything I can do about this? I'm fairly sure this isn't the expected noise level -- it's way louder than any other a/c I've been around.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with these air conditioners. Check to make sure there are no obstructions to the water flow draining from the pan. If this does not resolve the matter, and the vent filters are clear, then the units may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

water collection pan

It looks as if the water collection pan is quickly filling up. Should it be draining somewhere? or is that normal?

Answer:
It is not uncommon for the collection pan to fill with water. The more humid an area, the quicker the pan will fill. There may be a drain cap or plug on the back of the cabinet, typically located on the lower right corner, when looking at the unit from the back. Even if there is not a drain plug, the back of the cabinet is shaped in such a manner that the water will drain at a certain level. This is all normal operation.
