What People Are Saying

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2015 LG top load washer review had 3 machines in 49 years - with agitators - ALL GE's - never an issue (besides getting loud after 20 yrs or so). Purchased the LG top loader in 2015, we have yet to have a clean load of laundry. Same household, less people (empty nest). Was fooled by the "noise reduction", although it plays a song before and after the hour and a half session. I did a test with a lint filled towel folded in a square, came out in same shape, llnt included. Now after going to laundromat for blankets, etc., i remember how real machines and clean laundry used to be. BTW, not just complaining - will find out about possible repairs, maybe i have a dud. Buyer beware.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK If I could give this washer a negative I would. It is impossible to finish a load of wash. Always out of balance, even on an empty cycle. Keeps adding water and time, then it stops with an error. We have to let it stop, turn off water, do a spin only cycle until it errors out. Then put very wet clothes in the dryer. Avoid at all costs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This washer is horrible. STAY FAR AWAY. We spend hours upon hours just trying to get ONE load of laundry done. It continuously runs water, pops up the UE error message, and runs for hours on end without draining. I am extremely disappointed in this product and would strongly recommend NOT buying it. As a mom with an infant I do not have time to spend all day on one load of laundry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed - I'm in "UE" pergatory! I actually purchased this washer in 2013. I read the user manual and understood that you had to be careful to avoid uneven loads, and for the first two years it wasn't much of an issue. It would only go through its ridiculous redistribution process when it was truly uneven. But starting about a year ago, it is a constant battle. Anything less that half a load, regardless of settings, sends into its "uneven" marathon. It will take hours, waste a ton of water and then eventually shut off and flash UE. Efficient it is NOT. It is the most frustrating appliance I have ever owned. When I open the lid, it's not even uneven! I redistribute it by hand, try starting it back up on just "rinse and spin" or just "spin", and then say a prayer to the appliance gods that maybe, just maybe this time it will work. It is a waste of my time, water, electricity and money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Washing Machine Continually shows Uneven no matter what type of load. I have to stand guard over the machine to manually re-balance so that it does not continually fill back up with water and restart. Wastes so much water! We have tried leveling and vibration pads with no success. I will never buy another LG product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome washer Have had this washer for three years now. Have had no problems and it is used every day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice big washer i use my washer two to three times a week and with the large capacity the number of loads is reduced I like the fact that if i need a small load it is load sensing and will adjust the waer level on its own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall Very hard getting used to. No agitator, long wash times, etc. Still seems like clothes don't clean quite like an "agitator" machine. However, the functions and ease of use are very good. Now OK after adjusting to it.

Why do the clothes on the bright whites cycle seen to just in tub without movement or sound during the cycle when the wash light is flashing?

Asked by: Gibfam
We appreciate your interest in this washing machine. More action is occurring below the surface, which may not be apparent when watching the washer operations.

I want to wash my bathroom rugs- I'm housesitting for my dad who is I. The hospital. Please tell me how to get the machine to fill up w water  I feel really stupid

Asked by: Laceybj
We regret to read that your Dad is in hospital and we certainly hope he recuperates soon. There are two things that you need to keep in mind about the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.5 cu. ft. Ultra Large Capacity Top Load Washer Featuring Powerful StainCare™ Technology, Model # WT4870CW. The first is how the machine works. After you have loaded your laundry into the washer, selected your desired cycles and selected the cycle modifiers and options and pressed the Start/Pause button to begin the wash cycle, the washer automatically adjusts the water level for the type and size of your wash load for the best results and for maximum efficiency. It may seem that there is not enough water in the drum for some cycles but that is normal. The washer does have a 'Water Plus" option that you can select to add more water to the wash and rinse cycles. To activate this option, you would need to press and hold down the 'Extra Rinse-Water Plus' button for 3 seconds and if the beeper has not been turned off, you will get a confirmation beep. However, if the washer has reached its' maximum water level, the Water Plus button will have no effect and you cannot activate this option in the Bulky/Bedding cycle. The other thing you want to consider is that Bathroom rugs typically have a rubber backing which makes them either water resistant or waterproof and there is a caution that comes with this machine that says, "Do not wash or spin any item labeled or known to be water-proof or water-resistant even if the product care label on the item permits machine washing. Failure to follow these instructions could result in severe damage to your laundry, your washer and/property damage as a result of abnormal vibration of the washer"...^IFV

The fabric softener dispensing compartment doesn't drain and is full of water at the end of a wash cycle. The detergent dispensing compartment drains appropriately. Any ideas?

Asked by: Graceful2003
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. If the detergent compartment is not draining, then it would be recommended to remove this cup and wash its components, and dry them thoroughly, to ensure that the parts move freely. If this does not resolve the matter, then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at

The big silver 'disk' at the bottom of our top-load washer has come dislodged. Why did this happen? Is it an easy fix? Is it something we can do ourself?

Asked by: JanetRN
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. It is difficult to determine why this cap would have become detached, although it is possible that something got caught on it. It is recommended to have a technician install this piece, to ensure it does not come loose again. Why does my washer leak?

Washer leaked from the left rear on the first day. It was replaced by another one. It worked fine for 30 days and it started leaking - in a different place than the first one. Model WT4870CW. We just wash clothes; there is no abuse of machine.
Asked by: Rowdee
This started happening with my washer as well, after ~1.5 yrs. It leaks around the bottom left side and also the front left. I've had a technician look twice, but he isn't able to determine the problem. It's not a huge amount of water, but enough to need a few microfiber towels to soak up the water.
