More free time

More free time

Towers of towels, piles of sweatshirts, and a mountain of jeans? Go for it. The ultra large capacity (4.5 cu.ft.) tub lets you do more laundry in fewer loads. That’s time saved and sore backs avoided.

Count on it

When you buy a washer, you want something reliable that you can count on. Because the Direct Drive Motor uses fewer moving parts and operates more efficiently, LG confidently backs the motor with a 10-year limited warranty.

The hottest thing in cold clean

Using the cold cycle on your washer doesn’t have to mean compromising. ColdWash™ technology uses cold water and enhanced washing motions to penetrate deep into fabrics, giving you cold water savings with warm water performance.

Get wise

Get wise

If you ever experience an issue with your LG dryer, you don't have to worry. The SmartDiagnosis™ feature helps the service center diagnose problems over the phone, or with a simple app on your smart phone, helping you minimize costly, inconvenient service calls.

Wash in peace

You shouldn’t know your washer is on when you're in the next room. The LG TrueBalance™ anti-vibration system is designed to minimize washer noise and vibration for smooth, quiet performance in any room of the house - even on the 2nd floor.

A QUICKER CLEAN

A QUICKER CLEAN

It's not like you always have time on your hands to wait around for the wash. The SpeedWash™ Cycle can have clothes clean and fresh in just 35 minutes.

Save money. Save energy.

Save money. Save energy.

When your washer uses about 30% less energy and half the amount of water used by regular washers, you’re going to make an impact—on your utility bills, your energy and water consumption, and most importantly, the environment.

What People Are Saying

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 826 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE IT! Look forward to doing laundry! Very impressed with the quality and ease of operation with this washing machine. Very quiet! August 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by LG Model WT4870CW Even though we have had this washer only a few weeks, we have found it very nice and easy to use. We were unsure about all the "bells and whistles" with the new technology but the price was right and our 3-year old washer had just gone out and we didn't spend a lot of time shopping to replace it. Since our 3 year-old dryer was still like new, we found no reason to purchase the matching dryer. August 13, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by E6 code After researching in Consumer Reports, this LG WT4870CW washing machine was highly rated. We bought this machine and its matching dryer. We purchased it at Home Depot in Oxford,MA We bought their five year extended warranty on both products and thank goodness we did. I enjoyed this washing machine but after only two years of ownership, we are getting an E6 code which the manual says is a "clutch error" We called Home Depot and it will be 5 days before a repair person can come and fix our machine. My former washer, which I used for 17 years (with an agitator), never had repair problems. I washed rubber backed rugs in it and in this washer you cannot. Would I buy an Electronic HE washer again? ABSOLUTELY NOT, Sorry. July 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product for the money The LG washer is an excellent product for the money. It runs very quietly. Love the end of the cycle reminder. Instead of being some harsh electronic buzzer it plays a little tune. The washer does a good job of getting our clothes clean. July 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb Outstanding washer. Only complaint is that it is about 30% slower than the old machine. Worth the wait. July 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So quiet! Love, love love this washer! I had a front load washer for 15 years and got used to the hovering helicopter sound every time it spun. I can barely hear this washer. It spins the clothes better too, they are nearly dry when i put them in the dryer. The only negative I found was with an extra large load, it didn't clean as well as my old washer. But when I put on the extra rinse/water plus it cleans just as good. I like it also has a soak cycle, which can't be done in a front loader. I bought a top loader because I thought I didn't need the large capacity anymore since all the kids are at college most of the year, but I think this washer is bigger than my old one! Overall, I think this is a great washer. July 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great washer and a good price Bought this washer about a month ago after replacing a 15 year old front loader. My wife wanted a top loader and we found this one after looking at a number of brands. We have not been disappointed, It has a large capacity and a variety of cycles. Most importantly it gets your clothes clean without wearing them out. The cycle length is normal for a high efficiency washer. Yes I recommend. June 29, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hate, hate, hate my WT4870C washer The only good thing about this machine is being able to wash my king size comforter. It will not wash small loads.....unbalanced every time and refills with water. I have to squeeze the water out. This is the most frustrating machine I have ever had. Wish I could afford a new machine with an agitator. Don't buy this machine! June 28, 2015

Agitator

Please explain how having no agitator to move clothes is more efficient than the older models with an agitator. How does yours work?

Answer:
The new washer may very well be more "efficient" but it is my opinion that the agitator IS NEEDED. I went from the old school washer with the agitator to this new HE style washer. For regular, non stained normal clothes, it works fine, but for heavy duty, dirty clothes, you need the agitator.

If my husband had it his way, he would throw out our new washer and get back our old one. He would say our new one sucks... I wouldn't go that far, but I have no problem saying I wouldn't buy it again.

Much more efficient.
The drum itself rotates 1 direction and the drum base goes the opposite direction.....you can hear it's action while washing...that sloshing is this dual action making this machine very effective at cleaning.

Need to find a top load washer that can handle small (delicate) loads and medium to large loads of heavy towels, jeans, queen comforters with waterproof mattress pads, rain jackets and shower curtains, etc. Want enough HOT water to get the clothes and bedding clean. And, need a washing machine that does not need to be baby sat due to balancing issue or needs 2 hours to clean clothes. Does LG offer a model that can satisfy these requests without breaking the bank? Was looking at the LG WT4870CW but many people say they cannot wash waterproof bedding and have balancing issues that shut machine down.

Answer:
The WT4870CW washer does all that. It adjusts for load size, and has settings for just about anything I can think of. It holds my thick king size mattress pad easily, but also does small loads well. It has gotten out of balance once since I got it. Then it because I had one heavy thing that got bunched up. I straightened the load and it worked fine through the rest of the wash. I love mine.

Answer:
If I were you I would lean more towards the LG large capacity front loader. We are seriously considering donating our WT4870CW to charity after 3 months of use because of the load imbalancing issue which happens way too frequently to be true, in favor of the WM3470HVA which is a smaller version of the one I think you might do well with.
Also when I washed a comforter in the WT4870CW there was detergent residue left behind & we had to run the cycle again to clean it.

I don't believe so. That is why there is a sensing function on this machine. It senses how large or small a load is in the machine before it dispenses any water.
